The first time I was exposed to the book was quite a few years ago and it has been one that has stuck with me ever since. Anytime anyone I know has a baby, I buy this book for them. I recommend it to anyone who has children!

Jacob treasures the succession of items made by his grandpa. The rhyme and repetition are entertaining, while the illustrations are masterful. It relates the importance of family, while supporting a recycling theme. I have enjoyed it many times over with my kids - and by myself too!

From Our Editors

This wonderful book from children's author and illustrator Phoebe Gilman is a beautiful adaptation of a Jewish folk tale. In Something From Nothing, the lovely blanket that Grandpa made for Joseph has begun to wear thin. But all he has to do is bring it back to Grandpa, who knows there's always just enough fabric to turn it into something else. First it becomes a jacket, then when that wears out, a vest. When there's only a tiny scrap of cloth left, he uses it to cover a button. Joseph is sad when he loses the button, but then he realizes that he has just enough of the old blanket left to make one more thing… a story! Kids three to eight years will love the simple rhymes and repetition in this lovely story of hope and renewal.
