The Southern Vampire series is campy, sexy, humorous, and wrapped in mystery. If you are a fan of the HBO series, be warned, it is only loosely based on the novels as far as plot lines go. I just adore Sookie's adventures with the supernaturals, and anxiously await every new edition! Just read them already!!

    "disappointed.....but"

    Reader1

i started watch the show first after trying to get into it a few times. after i got through the first 3 eps i was hooked. being a big reader i decided what the heck i'll dish it out for the 8 book set. i was so excited...but i found the first book rather dull. i couldn't get hooked i forced myself to finish it.
i am on the 2nd book now and only read 25 pages and i still can't seem to get into the book. usually i'm pretty patient about a book being slow in the beginning. i just can't seem to get into the book. i'm pretty disappointed, because the set was not cheap and i don't want to skip the second one and just on the 3rd.
i guess i compare the books too much to the show. it too bad the other characters are not in the book as much as in the show. i just bought a new book, but i think i'll read this new one and than come back to sookie & the adventures of bon temps. i really do like the characters, but i'm just not getting into the books.
hopefully i can focus for the rest of the series. i do recommend the books, if you enjoy the show. but for the few who think the books are similar to the show you will be disappointed. i know the show is only roughly based on the books! but really Lafayette....why...he is my fave!

Sookie books are so fun to read .. best to buy the box set because once you start you will just want to keep reading and reading and reading....

If you have yet to dive into the Sookie Stackhouse universe grab this box set!!! It saves you money in the long run, looks great on your bookshelf AND to boot it has turned out to be an addictive imaginative series. I bought this so I would have a book to read once I finished the first one....well I plowed through the whole series reading a book a night about the amazing Miss Stackhouse, her friends and thier adventures. I know once I complete every Sookie book I will be rereading these over and over. There are plenty of twists and turns throughout they keep you guessing until the very end.

Very guilty pleasure, but oh, what pleasure! Absolutely delicious and definitely heat inducing. I can't help it. Supernaturals. Extremely sexy supes for that matter. Extremely sexy supes having steaming explicit sex. And stuff. All of above mixed in between intrigues and very lively characters. What more does a girl need?

    Gotta love em

I loved watching the first 2 seasons of the show True Blood so when I knew there were NINE books that inspired the show I jumped right in and started reading them.

I really enjoyed reading the books which were very entertaining and quick reads!

The show differs from the books but I think the difference is actually good, I like the changes they made which makes watching the show exciting, like Jason's character plays a very big role in the show not so much in the book, also Lafayette is awesome in the show and he is barely mentioned in the books. There is one exception though, Tara plays a big role on the show and is barely in the books and I hate Tara's Character, if Tara dies tomorrow (on the show of course ) I would be glad, she KILLS ME.

Back to the books. I will not deny that these books are by no means literature feats but they are fun and an entertaining diversion from the real world since they are based on fairies, vampires werewolves witches and telepaths. They are filled with mystical creatures and worlds.

So if you are tired of reading serious books and you like vampires, hop on the true blood bandwagon and enjoy the ride.

I have to say I actually started watching the series True Blood (which I absolutely love), but i'm a big reader and usually enjoy the books better...I picked up the first book and within one week I had finished all 8 books. Amazing and so well written!! I love the story and the characters, Charlaine Harris really KNOWS how to write a fantasy romance and how to keep a reader keep on reading!! I highly reccommend this box set to anyone who is willing to give up a week.. haha. Worth every penny, can't wait to start book 9!

I bought the first 8 books of the Sookie Stackhouse series and I surely do not regret it. The series is SOOO good, and i could not put the books down! Thankfully, once i had finished one book, the other was readily available. Mrs Harris is a great author. She is witty, humorous, detailed and graphic in her writing. I recommend this series to any one who enjoys stories about vampires, werewolves, and every day to day stuff. The only thing I could say is that I can't wait for the next books to com out!

After getting hooked on HBO's True Blood....I decided to back and read the books! They are a million times better! Sookie is funny...and I love the mystery element in each book!

Kind of like Twilight...but for adults!

    Addictive Series!

As a fan of True Blood, I ran out to buy this set - and I was so glad I did. The world of Bon Temps is so much better in a book than it is on TV. Sookie is one of the most interesting, fearless, and funny characters I've read in a long time. I fell in love with Eric in the books - how this that even possible? Ms. Harris has made this character so irresistible, despite his shortcomings.

Even though this is a series about vampires and shifters, you don't even really notice that. You really get too caught up in Sookie and the predicaments she gets herself into. Highly entertaining!

Not what I was looking for

    Sarah

These books are easy quick reads. The author provides romance and mystery so if your looking for a easy read that doesn't require you to think, this might be what your looking for. What they lack is depth. I read the first two novels in the set and although the second one is much better, the writing quality of both remind me of a story a student might write in high school.

    Addicting

    Lindsay

These books are by no means the next greatest literary endeavour but if you go into them with the mindset that the stories are chick-lit fluff they are quite enjoyable. Harris writes with an oversimplified and repetitive narrative but her stories are fresh and her characters well-thought out so if you are looking for something light to read in between "serious novels" then this is a great choice. My only problem with the stories are that Harris spells E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G out for the reader (even the pronounciation of names). The more you read and the more you get to know the world Harris creates the more you want to read so this collection is a great buy. Addicting!

    Great to somewhat ok

First couple of books were wow! I could not let go. Starting from the 5 book, ok maybe 6, it started to seem like the stories were bit too streched, not falling into places, weakening the plot. Ms. Harris is a great writer, I wish she wouldn't try making so many books. But I am still waiting for her next book hoping for better.

    My Girlfriend loved it!

    Mark Dolan

I bought this set for my girlfriend and she loved it. We both watch the series so she wanted to read the books while waiting for season three to start. They are a little off from the series which is to be expected. The only thing that annoyed her was that in EVERY book she retells you about Sookie's life and the things she went through. If I am reading book four or five I would hope I would know what happened in the books before. It was really annoying to read it over and over. She did so much retelling she could have made another book with all the useless text. Other than that it has a great storyline and good characters. She can't wait for the next book to come out!!

i just finished what is written of the series and it was great! This isn't my usual genre, so I wasn't to sure about it at first. The character development throughout the book is excellent and I found my favorite characters continually changed. The storyline is fantastic and I'm excited to start watching the first season of True Blood. I can't wait until the next book comes out in March! I did find each book was a bit repetitive of the ones before it, but that is true in any series.

If you are a fan of the book, or starting to get into the series or TV show then i would STRONGLY recommend that you get this series first. If you bought the first book (like i did) then you might want to get the 8 box set which is much cheaper than buying the actual books itself. Excellent characters and very humorous.
