Spend Smarter, Save Bigger is a new book written for Canadians to help them save money on life's big expenses and achieve their financial goals. It's full of common sense and also some very innovative ways to save big on life's big expenses. Subjects like Auto, Home, Investments, Tax and Insurance are each covered in their own chapter are discussed in detail with real world examples including a great deal of the author's personal experiences.
Although I had already been using some of the strategies covered here, I found this to be a very helpful book with good suggestions on how to uncover more savings. Spend Smarter covers a lot of ground and you may find that some concepts would benefit from more explanation. Luckily, liberal mention of web links and a list of recommended books for further reading make more information easy to find.
Spend Smarter was suggested to me by a family member, and I'd recommend it to others.

Margot explains complex ideas in percise and simple terms. This book gives you the feeling that smart financial planning is not hard work but simply a personal lifestyle change for the better. I enjoyed it very much and I am benefiting from her knowledge already.

    Very Educational!

I have recently read this book “Spend Smarter Save Bigger” and it was a very educational read, it makes very overwhelming topics easy to understand with appealing resolution approaches. I am very big into personal saving, and I love how the author breaks it down and explains things throughout the book that I wouldn’t be able to know without some serious research, and even with research I may not learn all the tips and ticks that the author has offered. Also in this day in age books tend to be from a lot of American authors, and in the finance department, American finance knowledge will not benefit Canadian living. I would definitely recommend this book

    Practical guide, fun to read

Three comments about the book, practical, practical and practical. Not many investment theories, but a lot of real life examples. It’s so much fun to read it than most of the investment books that I can find. What I like most are the chapters about mutual fund and house investment. Believe me, most Chinese people are big savers, but quite risk averse about investing in any kind. I bought a copy for my cousin as a Christmas gift. She has been waiting for the perfect timing to buy a house for years. I hope the book can help her to understand that time in the market is more important than timing the market.

Spend SMARTER Save BIGGER I read the entire book last nite with much interest and enthusiasm!! It was a great "read" -easy to understand with excellent real life examples. I found it to be on track with the principles and directions I chose to follow -although not all the time- throughout my course of investments and life situations. Amazing how parents with the right attitude can influence your life.!!!!!!Ahhhhh Einstein was right "the most important invention of man was magic of compound interest.
The Chapters on the "ins and outs"of mutual funds RRSP's, Investing and Mortgages were all filled with practical tips for the starting investor as well as the seasoned saver.
Your writing style and practical examples made understanding and grasping the core investing and planning principles easy. With personable style the core points were re-enforced with the Cheat Sheets at the end of each "life lesson". The Chapters on Relationships, Driving (I had my son read this several times) and Charity all look at a slightly different but neglected view of life as it relates to financial happiness and freedom. I agree with you that even in my peer group = the 50 plus "boomer" crowd are ill prepared to have some semblance of financial stability or financial freedom as the majority are spending as fast as the are earning their money... I will not hesitate to recommend your book to my younger AND older friends to get them on the right road to a more stress free and relaxed financial future.. I am sure the new book will be a success!!!
