Star Wars: Republic Commando: True Colors

by Karen Traviss

Random House Publishing Group | October 30, 2007 | Mass Market Paperbound

As the savage Clone Wars rage unchecked, the Republic's deadliest warriors face the grim truth that the Separatists aren't their only enemy-or even their worst.

In the Grand Army's desperate fight to crush the Separatists, the secret special ops missions of its elite clone warriors have never been more critical . . . or more dangerous. A growing menace threatens Republic victory, and the members of Omega Squad make a shocking discovery that shakes their very loyalty.

As the lines continue to blur between friend and enemy, citizens-from civilians and sergeants to Jedi and generals-find themselves up against a new foe: the doubt in their own hearts and minds. The truth is a fragile, shifting illusion-and only the approaching inferno will reveal both sides in their true colors.

A new success in the best-selling industry, True Colors brings out more of Travis's imagination with the few limits set down by LucasArts. Recommended and nothing more to add.

Karen Traviss is a wonderful, insightful and emotional writer. She can transport you to a war zone, a planet wide city, an exotic tropical resort or an interrogation chamber in the blink of an eye and with the ease of one image fading into the next. She has given the soldiers, the ignored and assumed evil Stormtroopers of the Star Wars series names and faces and personalities. They are three dimensional characters with stories and histories, and the Mandalorian culture is growing with them and for the reader. Each book reveals a little more of what is only hinted at in other books and games.
Trekkies learn the Klingon language and I can see Star Wars fans learning Mando as Traviss invents it. She rivals the greats in language and culture creation.
I'm almost scared to start into Order 66, the next book in the Republic Commando series, because I know what's coming and I don't want to see it happen to these characters she's created.
In my opinion, Karen Traviss is the best author currently writing in the Star Wars Universe. George Lucus may have spawned the big bang, but it's authors like Traviss who are bringing the universe to life.
