Starring Me!

by Cathy Miyata

SCHOLASTIC INC | September 15, 1999 | Trade Paperback

Ashley Lawrence announces to her third-grade class that she is going to be in a professional production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and suddenly she is the centre of attention. And she likes the feeling! So it seems natural that she should direct and star in the class production of The Wizard of Oz. But Ashley gets so caught up in making sure the class puts on a ?real play?, she forgets to be nice, especially to her best friend, Krystal. Kids will laugh at Ashley''s antics, while learning with her what is really takes to be a good director and, more importantly, a good friend.

This book stars a delightfully self-centred girl who wants all the attention especially in front of an audience. By the end of the story a lesson in friendship makes her "perform" the ultimate sacrifice. A unique entertaining tale!

    Innovative Plot

Cathy Miyata's characters sparkle in this innovative and witty story of one girl's struggle with instant fame. The main character, (who is Ashley, not Sabrina) is sweet enough to be loveable yet flawed enough to be real. Kids are going to love watching her try to whip a rag-tag band of actors and singers into shape in time for the big class performance.

From Our Editors

Sabrina finds herself the centre of some pleasant attention when she tells her third-grade class she's in a professional production of Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat. But when the class asks her to direct and star in their production of The Wizard of Oz, best friend Krystal feels Sabrina's getting too big for her red glittering shoes! Cathy Miyata uses humour and glamour to describe how being a good friend is more important than fame and fans in the funny Starring Me!
