Stella, Queen of the Snow

by Marie-Louise Gay

Groundwood Books Ltd | October 1, 2000 | Hardcover

Winner of the Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver AwardStella and her little brother, Sam, are spending the day playing in the snow. The forest, snowballs, snow angels and the mysterious white stuff itself provide fuel for Sam''s questions and Stella''s answers as they discover the world of winter together. Exquisite, evocative watercolors bring a snowy day alive and make this a wonderful winter story. Gently humorous, the book also captures the relationship between an older sister and her little brother - a fun yet sometimes trying responsibility. Stella and Sam explore the wonders of snow with the same magic that they bring to all their adventures.

This series of fantastic books about Stella & her little brother, Sam, have become a favourite in our house. I have an 8 yr old son & 6 yr old daughter. We laugh & giggle! The questions that Sam comes out with & then the answers his big sister gives are absolutely tickling! Sometimes serious and then well, not so serious. What can I say- we love them and always look, hoping to see a new one that we haven't found yet out on the shelves.

Creativly imaginative. Fabulously adorable and undoubtfully absolute. The book I am talking about is Stella Queen of the Snow. The pictures dicipt Stella's descriptions completely and the skys are specially wonderful. This is one you would want to read when your own skys are not as wonderful and your questions do not need a scientific answer but simply just an answer.

Employee Review Lynn from Chapters # 914, Dartmouth, NS

Those who loved Stella, Queen of the Sea will undoubtedly love this book, too. Stella, the older and bolder sister to Sam, answers Sam's many and varied questions about the snow. Stella, with her glorious abundance of red hair, gives not only real and accurate answers to Sam's questions, but fanciful and funny ones as well. This is a charming and colourful book with great illustrations. The short sentences could also be used to help new readers learn new words. I will put it on my shopping list for grandchild number one.
