    Excellent Resource

    Monique de Villers

I am just starting to learn about investing; hence, I have very limited experience and no formal training. This is the fourth "Dummies" book I have read on the subject, and it is definitely the best one so far. I found the book is well laid out, it offers very prudent advice, assumes only very basic knowledge and explains a number of fundamental aspects of the market, e.g. what the indices are, how they are calculated and what they mean. The brief anecdotes are both amusing and illuminating. The appendices provide a summary of the useful ratios and other resource material. I highly recommend this book for those interested in a solid grounding in the basics.

I found this book to be very helpful, and much more current and in-depth than its peers. It also touched on many investing hot topics (e.g. ETFs, Canadian trusts, SRI, etc), and presented a practical "end-to-end" investment approach that helped me to become a more effective and efficient stock investor. In addition to dealing comprehensively with stock investing fundamentals, it also dealt with essential topics that other investment books sometimes underestimate: risk, ratios, how to spot corporate window dressing, and leveraging online resources. It's a great and fun read, and has helped me to get results.

    Too basic

    Katarina Ortmann

Yes, I know that 'for Dummies" books are supposed to be basic, but I was looking for more in depth information on different investing strategies, which this book does not cover. I was very disappointed to read that there are 3 different concepts:
    1. Investing, which is buy and hold stocks long-term
    2. Saving, which is a "safe accumulation of funds for a future use"
    3. Speculating, which is gambling and is anything which does not fit 1. or 2.
The book covers some good basic info, but nothing you can't get Through an internet search in a few mintes.
