Stones Into Schools beautifully follows up Greg Mortensen's captivating tale Three Cups of Tea, in which he embarks on a school building mission in Pakistan.

This time, Greg Mortensen goes into post-911 Afghanistan in the midst of the Taliban insurgency. More than ever, Afghanistan, home to some of the most remote locations on Earth, needs Greg's help, and in true movie hero-like fashion, Greg responds. As Greg narrates his adventures, whether it be providing emergency equipment to earthquake stricken regions, evading the Taliban or simply making observations on the sad state of poverty and suffering, he also teaches us about Afghanistan's recent war-torn history.

Stones Into Schools not only entertains but educates us. Readers will gain understanding for Islam and terrorism, feel sympathy for people living in adverse conditions, and develop gratitude for something we take for granted - education. Hopefully this novel will help the humble author to achieve his ultimate goal, which is not to sell his book, but to raise money to bring education to those who need it the most.

    Inspirational!!

I read Three Cups of Tea and was awed and inspired by the story of an American citizen who comes across a group of children so desperate to learn that they are teaching themselves. This encounter leads him to start a non-profit organization to raise money and help the people of Afghanistan build schools for their children. Stones into Schools is a continuation of his remarkable endeavours. This book was easier to read than the first instalment. I was also sad to reach the end but it left me feeling that anything is possible, particularly in a war-torn region where it seems no hope is left. Greg Mortenson's journey and accomplishments will inspire you to effect change.

I was sad to reach the end of this book. I thought that Three Cups of Tea was great but this book went beyond Greg's first one. It really helped me to more deeply understand the politics and the needs of the outer regions of Afghanistan.
You will enjoy it for sure.
