Succubus Dreams

by Richelle Mead

Kensington | September 30, 2008 | Trade Paperback

Some days, a girl just can't catch a break.  .

.  .  .especially when the girl in question is Georgina Kincaid, a shape-shifting succubus who gets her energy from seducing men. First there's her relationship with gorgeous bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, which is unsatisfying on a number of levels. It's not just that they can't have sex in case Georgina inadvertently kills him (generally a turn-off for most guys). Lately, even spending time together is a challenge. Seth's obsessed with finishing his latest novel, and Georgina's under demonic orders to mentor the new (and surprisingly inept) succubus on the block.

Then there are the dreams. Someone, or something, is preying on Georgina at night, draining her energy, and supplying eerie visions of her future. Georgina seeks answers from Dante, a dream interpreter with ties to the underworld, but his flirtatious charm only leaves her more confused--especially as the situation with Seth reaches crisis point. Now Georgina faces a double challenge--rein in her out-of-control love life, and go toe-to-toe with an enemy capable of wreaking serious havoc among mankind. Otherwise, Georgina, and the entire mortal world, may never sleep easy again.  .  .

Best of the Series so far.

An imp out to get her, another succubus that would make any one cringe, a posse of angels keeping secrets, a boyfriend you can't sleep with and an annoying clairvoyant that never seems to have answers. And just to top it off…it's Christmas! In this book Georgina has to mentor a new succubus in order to get rid of the imp that bought her soul, find away to make things work with her boyfriend Seth without sucking out any of his soul, at the same time find out what evil is wreaking havoc on Seattle.

This series doesn't seem to come up much from what I've seen, but it should. It's a great series. Once again Mead manages to give her own twist on the paranormal and at the same time being quite factual when needed. Georgina is a wonderful character who is a magnet for bad things. She has a good heart and does everything right despite working for a demon. Although there is suppose to be a real spark between Georgina and Seth I find it's lacking, not just because they can't be together, we know from Mead's writing of the Vampire Academy that she can create a real passion between two people of forbidden love. Although without giving too much away this book did have more emotion between Seth and Georgina than the first two books. I find the connection between Georgina and the Angel Carter is better, even knowing they won't ever be together. It feels like he cares for her more than Seth. I would highly recommend this series, Mead really know how to write and does a good job of weaving her story and leading you on her journey.

Falling More in Love with the Series

Oh my lord... What a great third book in this series. So much going on here and I will try to muse without giving anything major away.

First of all... get ready to shed a few tears as there's definitely some drama going on with Seth. Regardless of the outcome, I do have to say that Mead wrote that so well. I just loved the way it all flowed and played out. It's really one of those moments where you know that's how all this was going to occur somehow, but it doesn't make it any less of a page-turner. I think it was handled with great class.

Georgina's dream and the reference to her contract are going to prove to be some juicy tidbits in the future. There's definitely something brewing there and I'm looking forward to seeing what that is. The dream is a touching one, but because we know Georgina's story, we can see how it would create both pain and hope.

I loved the Tawny character if only because she injected some laughs. One wouldn't think you'd need training to be a succubus (after all, sex sells itself), but poor Georgie is put through the ringer.

And speaking of new characters... Dante. The name is far too appropriate. I'm not quite sure how I feel about him, so I'm reserving judgement. I certainly don't dislike him, but I'm not sure that's a pairing I'm willing to handle yet. (The wounds are so fresh!) I think his inner turmoil and pain will make an interesting match for Georgie's guilt, though.

I honestly think so far this is my favourite in the series so it pain me to have to wait until the next one.

In this installment of The Succubus books, Georgina has some more problems. Her relationship with Seth is on the rocks, something is sucking the life force after her every time she seduces a mortal for his life force. Instead of having that beautiful after sex glow she has after stealing some soul, she is tired, weak and doesn't look her best.

With the help of some of her Angel friends, they try to stop the being who is stealing her energy.

Georgina has really grown and come a long way from the way her character was written in the second book. I downright hated her in that book. The author seemed to veer off course from a great debut with the first book, and threw in a bunch of contradictions with the second. I am very happy to say that this third book, Succubus Dreams, is as great as the first one one--story wise.

Like other books by this author (including her Vampire Academy books) I do have a problem with her writing style. It would be nice if she could go one page without using an adverb.

Some authors (a few of my favourite actually) are SO good at weaving a great story, that they can get away with breaking basic English rules. Richelle Mead isn't there yet. This book was damn good, and I wanted to know what would happen next, so I just tried to ignore the intensifiers as much as I could.

Fans of Georgina Kincaide will love this book. I'm eager and excited for the next one, Succubus Heat, to hit stands this summer.

Succubus Dreams was a solid B for me. The plot was great, and there is one scene (okay, two scenes) where I actually had tears in my eyes. I said *oh my god* out loud, I was so shocked.

I liked it so much that the next time I am in a slump I'll be picking git up for a re-read.

If you have not started this series, then this is your chance.
