A great beginning to a series

Marrok is a knight who used to fight for King Arthur, but that all ended when Marrok met up with Morganna le Fay. She puts a spell on Marrok ,for rejecting her, that makes him immortal, not only does the spell make him live forever, it makes it so that he can't get all the way there during love making ( if you catch my drift). Marrok lives his life miserably, looking for Morganna.

Olivia Gray owns an art shop and is trying to make a name for herself. She moved for the United States to live in England after her mother died so she could find her father. Olivia is looking for new talent and goes through her friend Bram to see if he can find anyone. He brings Marrok to Olivia and she is just amazed with what she sees, both with the art and Marrok.

Olivia finds out that she's related to Morganna le Fay, and that she's a witch, though hasn't transitioned yet. Marrok doesn't trust her since she's a le Fay, but the passion between them burns with an intensity that neither of them can deny. They have to learn to live with each other, since now there's a war brewing and there's no time to waste. The evil wizard Mathis is back and he wants the Doomsday diary, the diary of Morganna. Bram starts up the Doomsday Brethren, warriors who are willing to fight against Mathis. Marrok joins as does Lucan, Ice, Shock and Duke. Is there anyway they can stop Mathias from getting his hands on the diary, or is it too late? Now that Marrok is mated to Olivia they have to stay together or Olivia will die and they have to have sex or Olivia won't have any energy.

I've read Shayla Black's books before and was very happy with them so I decided to read these. Very happy with this book, very energetic story with a mix of romance and action, that keeps you rooting for the good guys! Definite four!

Back in the day when Arthur was king, one of his knights makes the mistake of a one night stand with the evil witch Morganna LaFey. When she realises that the sweet nothings the knight whispered in order to get her in the sack were lies she curses him with her magic book to a life of immortality without the ability of *cough-cough* sexual release. As if this wasn't enough, she tells Arthur that the knight attacked her. He is kicked out of the service and left to suffer alone, but not before he steals the book that cursed him hoping to one day set him free.

Centuries later, Marrok is convinced that he has found Morganna and the chance to be free. What he has really found is a young woman named Olivia Grey, a woman who he is drawn to for more than revenge. The two become bonded and both of their lives are put in danger when other people come looking for Morganna's book.

This book was a nice surprise as I bought it used without ever hearing about it before. The characterwere likable and cheeky (which I love). The love scenes were hot and the story was touching, but at the same time packed with adventure.

If you enjoyed the Black Dagger Brotherhood series then you'll like this one. They have a lot of similarities except instead of vampires this story is about wizards and witches.

Summary - This is the first book in the Doomsday Brethren Series. Marrok, a knight from King Arthur's time, has been cursed by a witch with immortality and unable to achieve sexual fulfillment. In his possession is the witch's diary all he has to do is figure out how to unlock it and break the curse. The diary is a very powerful book and deadly in the wrong hands. When a wizard asks him for his help and introduces him to Olivia and everything changes. Olivia is a descendant of the witch and may be the key to unlocking the diary but, Marrok isn't the only one who wants to open it, a powerful evil wizard long thought dead, rises and tries to take Olivia and the book and it's up to Marrok to save it and the woman he loves.

What I liked - I thought the story to be well written, with lots of plot and with very spicy sex scenes. There are lots of secondary characters with other stories happening along with the main one, and you can see were the other books in the series are going to come from.

What I didn't like - I found the heroine to be a little naive and needy, but she is only 23, so maybe the author was trying to capture that age. She also didn't have any friends, which I found a little odd, because she owns an art gallery, you would think there would be employees, customers, neighbours, or delivery persons.

Other than that I really enjoyed this book, it's a well written erotic paranormal romance. I think that fans of J. R. Ward would like this series, even though it's not a vampire story or quite as good.

One point I would mention is that even though they are written as stand alone books, to get all the information about the characters and the history of the brotherhood and all that stuff, I would start with this book, the first, I've already started the second and if I hadn't read this one first I would have a few questions. 49/1000

Not as good as JR Ward's BDB series. But it's in line with Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series, very mild and not too hot. The characters were a little weak and not built up enough. Plot line is the same - good must fight evil, or else. If you have time on a weekend, it's okay for a quick read.
