You ever feel sympathy for an immoral character? No? Read this book
- Nick Naylor - spokesman for the Tobbacco Industry is an morally
bankrupt and a throughly unlikeable person, but he's the best at
what he does. What he does is promote people's right to smoke, even
if it kills them.
Nick is a caricature of the smiling face on T.V. that tells us that
there is no definitive proof that smoking causes cancer or is
unhealthy. A really dispicable guy. But Buckley somehow makes him
into a sympathetic and tragic character deserving of our support
and sympathy. He does this by introducing characters that are even
worse than Nick and what they put him through.
A thorougly enjoyable read. I will be watching the movie this
weekend.
