If you haven't read the first one you may not want to read this
review. If you do that's great.
This story starts right where the last one ends. Chloe is now in
the hands of the Edison group, the group that run the Lyle house.
She's trapped there like a experiment with Rae and Tori, who did
not run away from the Lyle house when the rest of them had. They
begin asking her where Simon and Derek are since they have seemed
to have gotten away. But Chloe isn't falling for it. Chloe lives
there for a while trying to find a way out. One day Dr. Davidoff
leaves Chloe in a room, she breaks out and uses his computer,
finding out that they are genetic modifications designed to reduce
their power. She also finds out when the subjects aren't working
out that they kill them. She also finds out that Liz, her friend
from the Lyle house and the ghost that keeps coming back to her,
has been killed along with another boy from the house. She tries to
tell Rae what's going on but she doesn't believe her, she thinks
that the boys have brained washed Chloe into believing that the
Edison group is evil.
Finally seeing her way out she takes it, along with Tori , trying
to find the boys. Hiding in a warehouse she finds a picture Simon
drew, indicating when they would be back. The boy find them, though
they are not to happy that Tori is there with her. They set out to
find Simon and Derek's dad's friend who should be able to help them
on their journey of finding their dad and getting help. Along the
way they come through some dangerous things. Chloe can't help
raising the dead as she sleeps and there something wrong with Derek
and only Chloe knows what. The journey becomes even harder when
Chloe's dad puts a reward out to find her. So now she has to change
her appearance. Tori's mom and the Edison group is looking for them
and will stop at nothing to get them. They've gone to the extremes
before, what would stop them now?
So this is the second book in the Darkest Powers series. This one
was good, and there's a lot more character development. You start
to see the real Derek, and how it affects the relationship with
Chloe. The characters have to grow up and learn how to deal with
this alone and Kelley Armstrong did a very good job showing that.
Though this book wasn't as good as the Summoning it was still
really good.
