From the Publisher

Book II in the Darkest Powers trilogy takes us deeper into a world where the supernatural intrudes on the everyday with riveting effect.

If you had met me a few weeks ago, you probably would have described me as an average teenage girl - someone normal. Now my life has changed forever and I'm as far away from normal as it gets. A living science experiment - not only can I see ghosts, but I was genetically altered by a group of people who call themselves The Edison Group. What does that mean? For starters, I'm a teenage necromancer whose powers are out of control: I raise the dead without even trying. Trust me, that is not a power you want to have. Ever.

I'm running for my life with three of my supernatural friends - a charming sorcerer, a cynical werewolf, and a disgruntled witch - and we have to find someone who can help us gain our freedom back before The Edison Group finds us first. Or die trying.

From the Jacket

"[The Awakening] hits the ground running, leaving readers tripping, stumbling and racing to keep up.… Will exhilarate even readers new to the series."
- Kirkus starred review

"Armstrong has some fun toying with supernatural teen thriller conventions, and the taut pacing should please fans of the exploding genre."

About the Author

Kelley Armstrong is the New York Times bestselling author of the Women of the Otherworld series. She has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed. Today she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves while safely locked in her basement writing-dungeon. Good, but I think I liked Summoning better 3

The second book in the Darkest Powers series picks up right where the last one ended. and while I enjoyed this romp with Chloe, Derek, Simon, Tori, and Rae, it was missing something that armstrong captured in the first book. Or maybe it's just my penchant to like the first book in a series best. We see Chloe struggle to get a hold of her powers (trying not to raise animal zombies), and the beginning of a love triangle bloom (Derek and Simon are both so cute in their over-protective natures… read more

Better Than the First Book 5

This book is better than the first one because more characters are developed throughout and the plot thickens for Chloe Sander's, Simon, Derek and Tori. I anxiously await The Reckoning to see how it all comes together in the end.

Even better than the first 5

I LOVED this book. It was so much better than the first, and the first one is not that bad. I loved following Chloe and the other Lyle house misfits as they escape the evil adults from Lyle house. I also really enjoyed the budding romance between Chloe and Derek. Can't wait for the Reckoning

After their attempt to escape the Lyle house, Chloe and Rae (the half -demon) were recapture while Derek, Simon and Tori escaped. Now the Edison Group, the people behind the Lyle House and the reason why Chloe was such an incredibly powerful Necromancer, try to get Chloe to turn in her friends and her only hope for escape. Rae seems perfectly fine staying in the new compound run by the Edison Group and that makes Chloe question...who turned them in the first place. Victoria, the teenage witch… read more
