Once upon a time there was a deep, cold river that wound its way through a sleepy little town. What could be more lovely (or more mysterious) than a deep cold river running through the centre of town? Who knows what the river is thinking as it gurgles past the churchyard, churns by the fire station, flows under the bridge and finally escapes past the train tracks out of town? The Deep Cold River Story tells the tale of just such a river. One fine spring evening, for no reason at all, the river decides to overflow its banks and flood the town. "The Town Floods!" shout the newspapers as they float past the rooftops. Welcome mats and umbrellas float past, too. But after a week of soggy donuts and classes on the roof of the schoolhouse, the townspeople decide that something must be done. The Deep Cold River Story is a charming tale of how, when a whole town couldn`t, one little girl could. Illustrated with the delightfully whimsical and humorous art of Sue Savor, this is a story sure to enchant reading after reading. (2000)
