Thrilling and Emotional. Really brought out my emotions and really make me feel what the character was feeling. As the plot goes, Wasn't as good as the first. There were that many surprises and the speed was a little slow. But the characters were ok, THey could have been better. I found they didn't really have much to them this time and weren't a really big part of the story. I seemed as though they were just there.

Wow. This was one giant super-charged, adrenalin-pumping, heart-stopping thrill ride of a book. I could NOT stop reading!! And in this world of the less-exciting, "filler" second book in a trilogy, this one rises to the top and busts that myth right from page one. If you enjoy fast-paced thrillers, good writing, and well-developed, very likeable characters, then read this book!! Cannot wait for the closing act!!!

After The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer ended with a stunning revelation, I was absolutely desperate to read what would happen next in The Evolution of Mara Dyer! Michelle Hodkin adds so many dark twists and turns to The Evolution of Mara Dyer that it's no wonder Mara is losing her grip on what's real and what is not. Mara is not the most reliable of narrators; she's teetering on a precipice and one wrong step means stumbling off the edge to be captured by the darkness below. Mara is plagued by strange, nightmarish dreams and tormented by the knowledge that someone from her past, someone everyone believes to be dead, is actually quite alive and knows the secret about what really happened that night a building collapse killed her best friends. Mara's parents and brothers are concerned and worried about her behaviour, but they don't believe her, thinking she's having some sort of mental breakdown. As threatening messages are left behind for Mara, she and Noah desperately search for answers... Smoldering hot and positively swoon-worthy, Noah Shaw continued to be a loyal and supportive presence for Mara while her life crumbles apart; he would do anything in his power to protect her. Much like in the first book, the sparks between Noah and Mara practically leaped off the pages! Their pasts and mysterious abilities have left them broken in a sense, and they find comfort knowing they can at least find acceptance in each other without worrying about any pretenses. Michelle Hodkin is the queen of the unreliable narrator! Generally speaking, I have mixed feeling about unreliable narrators. Sometimes I really enjoy the added dimension they give to the story, other times they drive me absolutely insane! But this one was absolutely perfect. Mara Dyer kept me guessing, throughout it all she kept me on my toes. No matter what I was reading, despite all the evidence telling me it was actually happening I could never believe anything Mara was saying and I loved the suspense of it all. Like book one, The Evolution of Mara Dyer absolutely consumed my life while I was reading it. Every chance I got I had to sneak in more pages. On the subway, during my lunch, while standing over the oven making dinner, while brushing my teeth. Once you start reading you are overcome with an absolute need to know what happens next. The tension in the book is always dialed up the the max and it is guaranteed to get your heart pounding. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer was an intense read, but I think The Evolution of Mara Dyer took the story to a new level by being super creepy. There some new characters and some new twists that kept me biting my nails, worrying about what would happen to Mara, her family and Noah. I can’t really elaborate without giving anything away. But yeah. Creepy stuff. There were however, some problems with this book that I didn’t have with book 1. For instance there was just so much going on. I got confused on a number of occasions. The narrative wasn’t as straight forward and it was easy to get lost in all the flashbacks etc. I also didn’t enjoy the romance quite as much. I still like Noah, but I didn’t love him in the same way. He was colder, more distance and his role in this story frustrated me more than anything. But I definitely plan on continuing the series, so I hope he’ll go back to the Noah I love in book 3. Recommendation: A thrilling roller coaster of a sequel. Okay, Michelle Hodkin. Go ahead and make me have ALL THE FEELINGS. I'll admit, I was a bit nervous reading this book. Although I was a huge fan of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, the direction it was taking had me worried. And as I started reading The Evolution of Mara Dyer, my fears increased. There were lots of outcomes to this story and I wasn't liking some of them. But, I was naive to doubt Hodkin's skill, because she had a plan all along (and a brilliant one at that). This novel was engrossing. Putting it down was simply not an option. Mara Dyer is a brilliant narrator because you never know what’s going on with her. Every word out of her mouth could be a lie, or just her distorted version of the truth. She never really knows what's happening and you get to find out right along with her (and be petrified just as she is). But the thing about Mara Dyer is that, although she’s a dark heroine, I couldn’t help but root for her. I wanted her to defeat the horrors she was facing. There were so many different parts of this book that terrified me, but I think the most fearful part was Mara being sane and no one believing her. That she couldn’t even turn to her family for help because they thought she was insane and anything she said would only prove them right. It would be a heart-wrenching thing to endure, and one that could kill your spirit. And, at parts, it seemed to wreck Mara’s, but she stood strong. And I loved that about her. I think this is going to shock some people, but I wasn't a huge Noah fan in the first book. Yes, he was gorgeous and funny and British, but he felt kind of a like a typical YA boy. At the end of The Unbecoming I started to see more depth to him, but I didn't get to see enough of it. But in The Evolution my opinion of him completely changed. Noah is not a typical, cookie-cutter love interest, but a complex and moving character in his own right. I loved getting to dive into his perspective (however brief) and find out just want goes on behind that mask of strength. He had countless swoon-worthy moments, and was a rock when Mara needed it most. Their relationship grew in Evolution and it was a treat to read about. Two broken people finding strength in each other. One of my favourite things that can happen in a story. Something that I also enjoyed about this book was what intense feelings I had for the side characters. I was livid at Mara’s mother, intensely loved her two brothers, thought Jaime was even more amazing and funny than in the first book (Mara and Jamie’s banter is hilarious), and adamantly hated the antagonists. My emotions were all over the place with this book! Michelle Hodkin has a way of tapping straight into your adreline and throwing punch after punch at you. I was on edge during every page. As a last point, THIS COVER. I mean, wow. I bow down to whoever designed, photographed, modeled, did-anything-in-creating this cover. It's stunning. Beautiful colors, amazing image and it matches! It's just so perfect I can barely handle it. The Evolution of Mara Dyer is a dark and twisted tale, and had me guessing until the very end. Honestly, the suspense in this novel is crazy! I kept flipping the pages just knowing that it was building up for something mind-blowing. And it sure was. I think I may have loved this book more than the first. Words can't describe how I feel about this series. It is so good, with a lot of character development, suprising events, and just enough romance and horror to make it interesting and intriguing, without overdoing it. I loved every bit of this book and felt so many emotions when reading it. Some people think its cliche, but I think its original. Even if you think its your typical paranormal romance type story, Its still amazing. I felt like i could connect with Mara, not because of what makes her 'special', but because of all the things and feelings that make her real. I loved it as much as the first, and can't wait until The Retribution Of Mara Dyer, coming out in FALL 2013!!!!!! I have mixed feelings about the ending. I was sad because of Noah, even though Mara knew better, but I loved the Dr. Kell's stituation, and i feel that Hodkin made it just perfect. While keeping readers intrest, she managed to make another book with a cliffhanger-type ending, while not pushing it so that I'm not ripping my hair out, waiting for the next book. Definitely a winner!

One of the things that makes this series so delightful is that no matter what you know, it makes you question everything. Mara voices some of your own questions and it eats you up as you scroll through the pages desperate for not only her answers but also your own. This is one of those books that makes you relate to the character in a whole new way. You feel as trapped as Mara does because you don't know the answers, this isn't a straight point A to point B plot. It will make your hair stand on end and your pulse race and spin you out of control. If you want a book that you can't put down and that makes you hungry for answers and raw with emotion, the Evolution of Mara Dyer is definitely one of my favourite 2012 books this fall.

It’s taken me almost 24 hours to process my thoughts on this book after finishing it the other night. I love Mara Dyer, I really do. I’ve convinced more than enough friends to pick up the first book in the series, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, so that they too could know how awesome Mara is; but man did I want to chuck my poor e-reader at the wall more times than not during the course of this book. I know that probably sounds a little bit harsh but I mean it in the best way possibly. This book played my emotions like a fiddle and didn’t let up until the very last word. There were highs, lows and points where all I wanted to do was throw down the book and walk away out of pure frustration. Like The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, this book leaves you asking more questions than there are answers. I ached for Mara and her seemingly constant case of bad luck but at the same time I wanted to reach through the pages and shake her! My word, does that girl have a bad case of martyrdom! There were so many times I just wanted to shout, “Run, Mara! Save yourself!” but I couldn’t, and she wouldn’t have anyways. This book had twists I didn’t see coming, allies I would have never guessed were working together and it was all wrapped up with a pretty bow in the form of Noah Shaw (let’s be honest ladies, we come for Mara but we stay for Noah!). We are finally given some background on Mara’s “condition” and realize that maybe her and Noah are not the only two with these strange abilities. Definitely not for the faint of heart, Evolution did it’s job of thoroughly creeping me out, even keeping me up one night after I mistakenly decided to do some reading following an equally scary episode of 666 Park Avenue (this mistake will not happen again). The ending tore me to pieces and I refuse to accept that it is the way it is. The final sentence in the book is the only thing keeping me calm and hopeful that all will be rectified in the third and final installment: The Retribution of Mara Dyer, out next year. If you haven’t read this book yet I suggest you run, not walk, to your nearest book store and pick up your copy today! If not for Mara, than for Noah. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.

Well.. what can I say except for amazing because this book was. This book picks up just a little after The Umbecoming Of Mara Dyer left off and the ride never stops till the last pge of the book. The storyline was amazing and kept m interested from start to finish and te way this book eneded makes me wantt o rip my hair out cause now I have to wait for the third book. I thought Mara was great in this book with her trying to figure out and of course Noah was fantastic like always. Overall awesome book one of my favs of the year. :0)
