Houghton Mifflin Company | October 19, 1973 | Hardcover

Whisked away from his comfortable, unambitious life in his hobbit-hole in Bag End by Gandalf the wizard and a company of dwarves, Bilbo Baggins finds himself caught up in a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Wizard!

"Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To seek the pale enchanted gold."

Adventure anyone? The Hobbit is a novel about Bilbo Baggins' journey through middle earth with 13 dwarves and a wizard. It may be a bit slow for some as descriptions are lengthy and plentiful. However if you're the kind of person that enjoys being able to sit back, close your eyes and escape to another world. This is the book for you.

This dramatized version of the hobbit was quite excellent. The 4 cassette - 4 hour presentation brought to us by the BBC has great characterization portrayed through the actors' talented voices. The only drawback to this production was some of the music between chapters which began to get a bit grating after awhile. Overall sound quality was very good. Highly recommended for that long drive in the car.
