he Hockey Sweater is such a nice little childrens book that can melt the heart of any hockey fan no matter how old. The book is great for young people, the illustrations are adorable and there is some hockey history laid in the book as well. It is a nice look back on a semi-forgotten time and it is nice to introduce old-school hockey to the youngsters. I am going to read this book to my nephew once he is old enough and if that is not recommendation enough to get your hands on this book yourself… read more

i had to watch the film for this in elementary school once or twice, so when i read it i have the voice of the narrator in my head. but, as all of the other reviews have said (making this repetitive and somewhat unnecessary) it is a classic children's book. it encapsulates the tension between Quebec and Ontario, that still exists today, but not as much i think. I'm not at all into hockey myself, but am around hockey players so have been exposed to it in some form or another all my life, which… read more

A classic for kids of all ages! 5

This amusing story builds on our love of skating, rinks, hockey and wearing the sweater of our favourite team. Canadians share this heritage and this gives us a certain identity that transcends regional and language issues.

A Book For Every Canadian 5

Every morning, on my way to work I listen to Z 103 in Toronto. They were talking about this book and someone called in because they never heard of this book. ARE YOU CANADIAN? I remember that we read this book in both French and English at school. I loved it and still do. As a matter of fact, my boyfriend is a huge Toronto fan, so with me being a Habs fan, I think I may have found the perfect gift for him. This book should be read by every Canadian, especially… read more

This is a book that I have added to my son's collection of books that I know he will pass on to his children. Cherished memories are to be shared.

    The Sweater 5

As all the other reviewers have noted, this book is a Canadian classic and a must for everyone's library. You don't have to be a hockey fan (I'm not) nor a sports enthusiast to appreciate the warmth and humour presented by the dilema the boy, who is a Canadien's fan faces -- to wear a Toronto jersey or not play hockey. I would also like to suggest to the readers to watch the NFB production of this story. It is very well presented and as amusing as the book.

This book is a must for every young Canadian as well as every library in this country. The book is beautifully told of a young Canadien fan who wanted a Rocket Richard jersey but instead got a Maple Leaf jersey but the story has magical moments and the illustrations are just incredible.

The death of Maurice Richard not only saddened Canadians, particularly those who follows Le Rouge, Blanc, and Bleu but hockey and Canada lost an ambassador. This books will also inspired those to study… read more

A piece of Canadian history. 5

This is the kind of story that you find once in a life time. I can remember having it read to me almost 20 years ago, and as with anyone who has read it, I have never forgotten it. It sums up what it is to be young in Canada, where hockey is a way of life.

This book is awesome. For anyone who has a favorite hockey team you can really appreciate the humour in this book. My boys love it when their dad reads it to them with his french accent....especially seeing as he is a Toronto Maple Leafs fan!

I first heard this story narrated by the Canadian Film Board, and was instantly charmed by it. It's a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone, child or adult alike.
