The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook

by Tarek Malouf

Ryland Peters & Small | March 4, 2009 | Hardcover

Tarek Malouf opened the first Hummingbird Bakery in London''s fashionable Notting Hill district in 2004. This cookbook allows you to step inside this unique bakery and bring its trademark butter cream swirls, sprinkles, and layer-cake slices into your own kitchen. The Hummingbird''s Cupcakes fly off the shelves faster than any other cake. Who can resist an adorable Vanilla Cupcake topped with candy-colored butter cream frosting and scattered with sprinkles? Take Cakes to the next level with some mouthwatering recipes. Red Velvet and Carrot are both favorites at the Bakery, and the Hummingbird Cake is a sweet, sticky triumph of banana and pineapple. Open Pies, pies with tops on, delicate pies and no-holds-barred pies: There''s no shortage of options. Try Lemon Meringue with its mountain of golden fluffy meringue atop a rich, tangy lemon cream. You''ll find favorite Pecan Pie here too. When you need a sweet fix, Brownies & Bars hit the spot. Rocky Road and Muesli Bars are always popular and make welcome additions to a packed lunch. There can''t be much that beats a homemade Blueberry Muffin with your first cup of coffee in the morning. Finally, there''s something childishly satisfying about a big, chewy Cookie studded with chocolate chunks--there''s something here for every king of cookie fiend. *Classic bakes are back in vogue and this book provides 50 simple recipes for everyone''s favorites--from Vanilla Cupcakes to Key Lime Pie. *"If you haven''t tasted a Hummingbird Bakery look-too-good-to-eat cupcake, you''ve definitely missed out." AMAZING!

This cookbook is PERFECT! I have never had a bad recipe from here. They always turn out perfect, just as in the pictures. I love that the cupcake recipes only make 12 ( you can double it if you want). Its a great amount, as I get bored of eating so many of the same thing. I have been baking so much out of this book that I have to give it away to friends, and I have become quite popular from all the free cupcakes! One of the best cookbooks I own, love everything about it!

Since purchasing this book I have made several recipes and they have all turned out great, and there is lots more yet to try. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to bake.

    The Best Cupcakes. Ever.

I visited both locations of the Hummingbird Bakery when I visited London over Christmas, and I was instantly hooked on their delectable cakes and cupcakes. Needless to say, I immediately bought the book as soon as it came out, and I was not disappointed. So far, I have made the vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, and hazelnut cupcakes, and the banada bread, and each recipe has yielded perfect results (and these are the first things I have ever baked from scratch!).

There is a good variety of recipes: including cakes, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, pies, and brownies and bars. The pictures are beautiful, and the recipes themselves are simple and clearly outlined. My only question is: is an electric whisk the same thing as a handheld mixer?

Yes, and electric whisk and handheld mixer are the same :)
