I first read this book about 4 years ago and could not put it down. I laughed, cried... it was great and I found the characters truly enchanting. I reread the book again earlier this year and have begun lending it to my friends. Highly recommended! + read more

Fascinating Characters

I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much with this book, but 30 pages in and I felt like I knew the characters like my own family. Incredible writing and intriguing plot and characters. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

rivetting sounds too cliche

I took this book camping and read until I had to tilt the page towards the fire to make out the words. It even entered my dreams. Nuf said?

Amy Tan to me must be the greatest writer. Each word and pharse she wrote in this book I could picture. It was as though I was in the book with her characters. The story made me cry and laugh. It's a real touching story that i would love to sure with others.

Amazing book! Made me laugh so hard my stomach started to hurt. I truly love this book and enjoied every minute. It was so exciting that I couldn't even put it down. This may be her best work yet. I'm crossing my fingers and despartly waiting for her next novel.

This book not only made me think of the past and future but also the lifetime before the present one, and what it would like after you die. If you are superstitious and believe in life after death, this is an excellent book.
