Maharaj's depiction of immigrant life has its momemts of stark reality of living in a different culture, lifestyle ,as well as coming to terms with how the immigrant perceives himself compared to his origins. While the nostalgia is gripping, the generalisations of the "island life" are somewhat typical of the North American perceptions of life in the Caribbean and of politicians who see themselves as invincible. All in all a good read, I enjoyed reading it.
