Glen Duncan delivers a powerful, sexy new version of the werewolf legend, a riveting and monstrous thriller--with a profoundly human heart.

Jake Marlowe is the last werewolf. Now just over 200 years old, Jake has an insatiable appreciation for good scotch, books, and the pleasures of the flesh, with a voracious libido and a hunger for meat that drives him crazy each full moon. Although he is physically healthy, Jake has slipped into a deep existential crisis, considering taking his own life and ending a legend that has lived for thousands of years. But there are two dangerous groups--one new, one ancient--with reasons of their own for wanting Jake very much alive.

Good but didn't stay with me

I'm not sure why this one didn't resonate with me but it didn't. I liked all the characters, it was well written with a well thought out plot and fully realized world, but I was never truly absorbed into it. I wasn't eager to get back into it when I stopped reading and I can't quite put my finger on why.

  • A copy was provided by the publisher prior to the release date for review purposes. I applaud Glen Duncan for creating a werewolf I actually love. Youngings do not be mislead by this simple but gorgeous cover because this is not for the underage. The Last Werewolf is hot, sexy, and bloody. The cover itself alone is gorgeous. Printed on rough textured paper it is adorned with golden moons and text that reflect in the light. Additionally, the sides of the pages are colored a dark blood red, very gorgeous and it complimented the events that occur in the novel. The pace in The Last Werewolf is quite slow and at times can be really hard to put up with. I experienced quite a few moments where I felt I couldn't continue but thankfully I decided to tough it up and push forward. I didn't regret it one bit. Glen's tale of Jake was engaging, bloody, sexy and entertaining. The story was unique and exciting; drawing me in with Jake's unique personality and crazy life style. Glen Duncan where have you been all my life? Are you a genius possessed by the devil? If so...marry me! It takes quite a writer to make me fall head over heels in love with a werewolf and Glen's done just that. Glen's Jake is no Jacob Black, that I swear to you.

The book was not as good as I thought it was going to be. Do not let the book outline fool you. It was a great idea but it was not well executed. The language was often muddled and the lack of punctuation made the book difficult to follow. The lack of character building left the reader with no cares about if the main character lived or died. My opinion: I’ve read better… a lot better.
