Susie Salmon tells her life story from her afterlife, after she was murdered by a neighbour. From heaven, she follows the lives of her family.her parents and her sister and brother; her schoolfriends; and her murderer, Mr Harvey. She recounts the effect her death had on her worldher fathers obsession with the murder, and his growing suspicions about Mr Harvey; her sisters attempts to live her own life while seeking to avenge Susies death; her mothers flight from the family in the wake of her daughters murder and her desperate quest to make her life bearable again. As the novel progresses, the line between life and death becomes more blurred, more sad and, on occasion, painfully funny; the ending reveals a truly amazing twist. The Lovely Bones is a mystery, a love story and an investigation of what a happy ending means.
