The Lovely Bones (Large Print)

by Alice Sebold

Thomson Gale | April 1, 2004 | Trade Paperback

Large Print Edition.
When we first meet Susie Salmon, she is already in heaven. As she looks down from that strange new place she tells us, in the fresh and spirited voice of a fourteen-year-old, a tale that is both haunting and full of hope. Susie watches life continuing after her brutal death: her loved ones holding out hope she''ll be found, her killer covering his tracks. As months pass without leads, she sees her family contorted by loss. With compassion, longing, and a growing understanding, she sees them face the worst -- then, in time, pass through grief and begin to mend.

    Beautifully Written, Page-Turning Mystery

I am not sure quite why but this year my favourite fiction books have all been by first-time writers. When I first read the synopsis of this book – a young girl is raped and murdered by a serial killer – I said to myself, "This is not for me." Fortunately, I was on an airplane and this book was the only one in my briefcase. This tour de force is like nothing you would imagine. It is compelling, beautifully written and a page-turning mystery. After you read it you will want to recommend it to everyone.

A deeply moving story that captures the essence of love and family. It is a story about a family's struggle after a tragedy and their quest for inner peace, about the love between a father and daughter, and the tie that binds siblings together. It is well written and I recommend it to everyone.

The reason I bought and read this book was because I fell in love with the movie. Normally after watching a movie I do not find myself thriving to dig into the details. After losing a close friend of mine, and having been touched by the movie I purchased the book. I found the style in which Alice Sebold wrote kept me interested. She was descriptive but not over whelming. This book is brilliant and stands out from others.
