The Night Before Christmas

by Clement Clarke Moore

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers | September 1, 2002 | Picture Books

''Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there... There are countless renditions of Clement C. Moore''s classic holiday poem, The Night Before Christmas , but none is cozier or more full of joy than this one, brought to magical life by one of America ''s most cherished and highly-acclaimed illustrators, the late Tasha Tudor. This special 10th anniversary paperback has a great new look, with a redesigned cover featuring an illustration of a Christmas tree and sparkling gold foil. With crisp snowy landscapes, warm glowing details, and a host of cuddly critters, children (and adults!) will love cuddling up and reading this festive holiday story as they stay up on Christmas Eve, waiting for Santa to come down the chimney.

    A Sad Disappointment

    Carroll Merritt

I was really hopeful that this book would be part of our family Christmas Tradition. Sadly, the artwork at times was to say the lest disturbing. Santa looked like a demon elf and my sons were a bit frightened of the image. If you are looking for a delightful cheerful illustrated version pass this one by. Next time I will go into the store and preview the book first!

Robert Sabuda books are amazing. The main picture, as well as the side pages, is very intricate. I would highly recommend this book for older children or for younger children with grownup help.

Another Robert Sabuda book to add to your collection. He takes a well known classic and uses clever, detailed pop-ups to illustrate the story. Watch out for the two reindeers that jump out at you. As typical of Sabuda, he saves the best for the last page!
