The Notebook

by Nicholas Sparks

Grand Central Publishing | October 1, 1996 | Hardcover

Every so often a love story so captures our hearts that it becomes more than a story-it becomes an experience to remember forever. The Notebook is such a book. It is a celebration of how passion can be ageless and timeless, a tale that moves us to laughter and tears and makes us believe in true love all over again... At thirty-one, Noah Calhoun, back in coastal North Carolina after World War II, is haunted by images of the girl he lost more than a decade earlier. At twenty-nine, socialite Allie Nelson is about to marry a wealthy lawyer, but she cannot stop thinking about the boy who long ago stole her heart. Thus begins the story of a love so enduring and deep it can turn tragedy into triumph, and may even have the power to create a miracle...

I know that many people have an issue with The Notebook, but this is and always has been my number one faviourite novel. I never cried so much reading a novel in my life. It's even better then the movie was.

Being his first romance novel, Nicholas Sparks did an amazing job capturing emotion and feeling in his words. An absolute masterpiece in my personal opinion. It's rare that I'd read a book more than once, but I've already read this one three times.

    True Love

"They didn't agree on much. In fact, they didn't agree on anything. They fought all the time and challenged each other everyday. But despite their differences, they had one important thing in common. They were crazy about each other."

The Notebook, written by Nicholas Sparks is a beautiful story about true love. The novel describes all that true love involves including the good times, the tears, the laugher and the hard times. Noah and Allie meet as young teenagers. What begins as a summer romance turns into a lifetime of love and happiness. The theme of the novel is that two people who are truly in love would do anything to be together. The novel begins with Noah fighting for Allie when she refuses to go out with him. He finally gets her to agree and they fall in love, but the fight for their love does not stop there. Noah is not the wealthy kind of man that Allie's parents feel she deserves. Allie is forced to leave Noah, but years later they rekindle their love and realize through all the hard times they face they desperately want to be with each other.
This book was a light and easy read. The wonderfully written story warms the heart and gives people hope that true love still exists.

Sorry I know there are die hard fans out there for this book, but to me it was one of the worst I have read. I wanted a easy breezy read for a day this summer and I definitely got it...sorry, but this book is just a harlequin romance novel with a bit of shine.

Most romantic novel? Pulls on your heartstrings? Not a chance on both counts! I do not know why people gave this book 5 stars. The characters are boring, and it's typical fluff romance. It is sad about the outcome but I couldn't connect with any of the characters, and in all honesty it was boring.

So this is the first Nicolas Sparks book I read and I'm happy with it,The Notebook is a really cute love story and I enjoyed reading it, I will say I found the last chapter to be a bit sad but at least it did end with a semi happy ending. I have never seen the movie for this so I have no idea how it compares but you never know maybe one day I will. Overall it was a fun quick read and if your into love stories this is a good one to add to the shelf,I will say that I have read better stories but it's still good. I will read more stuff by Nicolas Sparks in the future because he is a good writer. :0)

I just finished reading this book, and I must say, I wasn't disappointed. This is the second Nicholas Sparks book that I read, and I must say, even though his books are a bit short, the stories that he tells are amazing. I love how he brings the reader into the world of the characters...and how the love of the Noah and Allie had survived and flourished over the years. It makes you believe that soul mates do truly exist. A tear jerker, on all accounts.

The same old generic Nicholas Sparks style of writing. The writing is childish and doesn't have any depth. It's really unfortunate that people believe this to be the best book they've ever read. If you want a good classic love story try Wuthering Heights. Nicholas Sparks is just a pathetic excuse for a writer, in my opinion.

Ugh! Nicholas Sparks is a genius, if you do not have enough HEART to realise what a great author he is, and how deep his stories are then you might as well stick to real pity love stories, such as twilight.

I was fortunate enough to have read the book before watching the movie - the book is much more touching and romantic.

    What is True Love?

The notebook written by Nicholas Sparks is one of my all time favorites. I re-read it while I was waiting for my order for Angels of Trilogy and thought I should write a review about it because it definitely needs all the attention because it's a fabulous novel, lol. I read this book a million times (of couse I'm slightly exaggerating, lol) and everytime I read it I felt the same experience as I read it the first time. This book was also made into a movie with the same titile. Of course, the plots of the movie and novel are a bit different but their both beautiful in their own ways. Anyways, I recommend this book to anyone that believes that the love Noah and Allie shares exists in reality and in my opinion it does but time is what will bring us to that. It is love that is SO true that it makes it a definite must read novel. I hope I can hear your opinions about this novel and I'll get back to you.

I loved this novel as well. The intense passion, love, and understanding between Allie and Noah is so beautiful. I cried my eyes out at the end of this novel. I agree that The Notebook is a must read novel!

Sparks weaves the love story of his wife grandparents into a wonderful masterpiece. Nicolas demonstrates that even true love can still exist today. Noah, a country boy met Alison at the fair. Over the summer, they fell deeply in love. But when Alie left, they were both heartbroken...There's only one thing I can tell you, the story has a very happy ending!

I have yet to see how the movie compares, but this book took me by surprise. I did not expect such a heart-warming love story to emerge in this novel. It left me breathless at some moments, and crying my heart out at others.
A very touching story. Good if you are looking for a great love and romance book, or if you just want a good cry once in awhile.
    Enjoy!

This was a great love story, very intense. This is the kind of love people should strive for. Some people believe that the fire and passion in a relationship is what tells you you are in love, I believe it is the one moment when you see into the future, and see yourself and your mate in your old age and still in love. Growing old together is the true test.
