The Notebook

by Nicholas Sparks
As told by: Nicholas Sparks

Grand Central Publishing | February 1, 1998 | Mass Market Paperbound

Every so often a love story so captures our hearts that it becomes more than a story-it becomes an experience to remember forever. The Notebook is such a book. It is a celebration of how passion can be ageless and timeless, a tale that moves us to laughter and tears and makes us believe in true love all over again... At thirty-one, Noah Calhoun, back in coastal North Carolina after World War II, is haunted by images of the girl he lost more than a decade earlier. At twenty-nine, socialite Allie Nelson is about to marry a wealthy lawyer, but she cannot stop thinking about the boy who long ago stole her heart. Thus begins the story of a love so enduring and deep it can turn tragedy into triumph, and may even have the power to create a miracle...

    True Love

"They didn't agree on much. In fact, they didn't agree on anything. They fought all the time and challenged each other everyday. But despite their differences, they had one important thing in common. They were crazy about each other."

The Notebook, written by Nicholas Sparks is a beautiful story about true love. The novel describes all that true love involves including the good times, the tears, the laugher and the hard times. Noah and Allie meet as young teenagers. What begins as a summer romance turns into a lifetime of love and happiness. The theme of the novel is that two people who are truly in love would do anything to be together. The novel begins with Noah fighting for Allie when she refuses to go out with him. He finally gets her to agree and they fall in love, but the fight for their love does not stop there. Noah is not the wealthy kind of man that Allie's parents feel she deserves. Allie is forced to leave Noah, but years later they rekindle their love and realize through all the hard times they face they desperately want to be with each other.
This book was a light and easy read. The wonderfully written story warms the heart and gives people hope that true love still exists.

Sorry I know there are die hard fans out there for this book, but to me it was one of the worst I have read. I wanted a easy breezy read for a day this summer and I definitely got it...sorry, but this book is just a harlequin romance novel with a bit of shine.

Most romantic novel? Pulls on your heartstrings? Not a chance on both counts! I do not know why people gave this book 5 stars. The characters are boring, and it's typical fluff romance. It is sad about the outcome but I couldn't connect with any of the characters, and in all honesty it was boring.

Even better than Message In A Bottle this tear jerker brought me smiles and a great sense of peace afterwards. 'A can't put me down' read that is wonderfully poetic yet simply written in truth from the heart of the author. Another keeper for everyone to enjoy.
