Absolutely one of my all time favourites! As an ECE teacher I can honestly say that this adventurous story has been read over and over to many children. Children love it and it's a must have for any teacher, parent and child. I love that there is a hidden lesson to be learned from this story and it is one that I discuss with the children after every time I read it, and that is that it does not matter what you look like, people should like you for who you are. Elizabeth who is the princess in the story goes out of her way to save her prince and when she goes through all the trouble of being faced with a dragon and finally finds the prince he tells her to come back when she looks like a real princess. She decides that he wasn't worth all that trouble and says "Ronald," said Elizabeth, "your clothes are really pretty and your hair is very neat. You look like a real prince, but you are a bum." He should have been grateful for all she had done for him. I recommend any Robert Munsch story they are always full of life and so fun to read. If you have not read this story yet, pick one up soon!

This was the first Munsch book that I bought and I quickly went out and bought a whole load more. He's an excellent writer with a wonderful range of stories and a beautifully simple and fluid style of writing that is both accessible to children and able to roll off the tongue of most adults. As you'll see from the other reviews here, this tale is about a young girl who, filled with nothing but courage, charity and a fair bit of brains, goes off to rescue a young prince from a ferocious dragon. After using all of her cunning to defeat the dragon she discovers that the prince is a bit of a monster himself, and so she decides not to marry him after all. Although I agree that the story has a wealth of small lessons for children to learn about boys and girls and expectations and disappointments, I think that one of its strongest points is that the book serves as a wonderful introduction to the fact that not all stories end the way we expect them to (it's still a happy ending, just a different one) and that sometimes a twist can be more satisfying anyway. Highly recommended for children from 3 to 103

This book helped my mother to get over a bad breakup with her very own "Prince Ronald". This book has the power to teach young girls to stand up for themselves, which is - unfortunately - so critical in society today. I believe that every little girl, teenager, and women should read this book over and over again.

I saw this play when I was a kid and I love the book!!

An empowering tale! Finally a book where the hero is a girl! And an independent one at that. Princess Elizabeth doesn't need an unappreciative prince in her life...if only older "girls" see the simple logic of Elizabeth. A must-read not only for little girls, but little boys as well.

Robert Munsch creates a wonderful story using the usual characters you would see in any old fairy tale.Then he uses his brand of humour to twist things into a brilliantly funny story with an unexpected ending. Great for all children.

Robert Munch's "The Paper Bag Princess" is an elementry school classic. He tells the story of a whitty princess, a mean and powerfull dragon and a stuck up prince with a subtle twist on the happy ever after ending. A wonderful story written with typical Munch humour. Written so that even an every day reader can bring the story to life using silly character voices and simple hand gestures. Kids love it because it's funny and parents love it because it teaches children to use your imagination when faced with an obstacle and the importance of inner beauty. A story so good it can even keep the attention of a young, attention deficite, energetic audience. Although it's written for young children, it's a great read for all ages.
