When confronted by raging fires or deadly accidents, volunteer fireman Taylor McAden feels compelled to take terrifying risks to save lives. But there is one leap of faith Taylor can''t bring himself to make: he can''t fall in love. For all his adult years, Taylor has sought out women who need to be rescued, women he leaves as soon as their crisis is over and the relationship starts to become truly intimate. When a raging storm hits his small Southern town, single mother Denise Holton''s car skids off the road. The young mom is with her four-year-old son, Kyle, a boy with severe learning disabilities and for whom she has sacrificed everything. Taylor McAden finds her unconscious and bleeding, but does not find Kyle. When Denise wakes, the chilling truth becomes clear to both of them: Kyle is gone. During the search for Kyle, the connection between Taylor and Denise takes root. Taylor doesn''t know that this rescue will be different from all the others, demanding far more than raw physical courage. It will lead him to the possibility of his own rescue from a life lived without love and will require him to open doors to his past that were slammed shut by pain. This rescue will dare him to live life to the fullest by daring to love.

I felt the character's anger, happiness and sadness when reading this book. It makes you open your eyes and realize there is so much more out there we cannot control but our love for one another. It was a great quick and easy read.

i bought this book because it came up in my search for books involving autism. Even though it doesn't involve much about autism the story line is fantastic, i love the characters! It was really hard to put the book down and stop reading, and when I reached the end i was SO pleased with the way the book ended off. It is for sure a MUST READ. :)

Nicholas Sparks has done it to me again, I swear everytime I buy a Nicholas Sparks book, I'll have to buy a box of Kleenex to go with it. This book had me hooked from the very first page. The emotions this book has definitely tugs on the heart strings. I would recommed this book to anyone. If your a Nicholas Sparks fan, you'll love this one, and if your new to Nicholas Sparks, this will be a great starter to pull you in. Enjoy!

Another great story by Mr. Sparks

I decided to get this book because of the little blurb written on the back, it sounded like a good book. I wasn't disappointed. This is a great story and shows how much a mother is willing to do for the love of her child. This also shows how you can be proven wrong about what you think about love and life. It had it's sad moments that is for sure but ultimately it will make you happy in the end. Great story for a hopeless romantic to read.

    WORTH RE-READING
    by Buggy

The other day I purchased two brand new book shelves to help accommodate all the books I keep buying with the intention of one day reading. As I was putting away my new and recently rediscovered old books I came across THE RESCUE. According to the date inside I first read this in 2002 yet I had no real memory of it. Anyways, I opened to the first page and damn if that Nicholas Sparks didn’t suck me right back into one of the best love stories I’ve ever read. Again. Due to a horrific childhood trauma volunteer firefighter Taylor McAden is driven to take disturbing heroic risks while on the job, trying to somehow put his world right. He has few friends and all of his past relationships have resulted from rescuing troubled women in one way or another. All of whom he inevitably leaves as soon as they want more from him then he can give. It seems that there’s just one leap Taylor can’t make; that of allowing himself to fall in love. Denise Holden is a single mother of a handicapped child. Due to a lack of finances she has been forced to move back to her mother’s hometown and live in the inherited home. At the moment she’s barely scraping by, her son Kyle taking up most of her time, energy and resources. Love is the last thing on Denise’s mind as she drives home from her job at the local diner. As fate would have it though a terrible storm hit’s the small southern town that night, contriving to bring our couple together. As the storm rages Denise crashes her car and upon regaining consciousness finds herself staring into the handsome face of risk taker extraordinaire Taylor. Before she can acknowledge him as her potential life partner though panic takes over as she realizes that her son is no longer in the car and is feared to be lost in the nearby swamp. I won’t be giving anything away by telling you that Taylor rescues both Denise and her son and together they forge into a relationship. But as wonderful as the relationship seems in the beginning it doesn’t take long for the cracks to begin to show and the harder Denise tries to help Taylor the more he pulls away. Shutting down emotionally and taking greater and greater risks with the fire department. As with every Nicholas Sparks’ novel we are never guaranteed a HEA which aids in a degree of tension throughout this story. For me the relationship and its sudden decline is so well written that it seemed a page from my own past, tugging at my heart with its familiarity. Taylor is a mystery throughout and the whys of this aren’t revealed until the very end. THE RESCUE contains some fabulous secondary characters and you will fall in love with every one of them. It’s also full of action, suspense and melodrama. There were a couple of moments when I actually gasped out loud, unbelieving as to what I’d just read. Have some Kleenex handy, this is a great but as always bittersweet love story.

I love Nicholas Sparks's books! You start off by thinking you know how the story is going to end, but then Nicholas always has a way to add twists to his stories. This story is just like that! Another sweet romance story of his, that I would recommend.

Sparks never disappoints me. Even when I think his story will be too predictable or sappy, it isn't. He took a simple plot and added a depth of emotion that took me by surprise. It was a good thing I wasn't still on the bus when I got to the end of this one; my tears would've embarassed me. You wouldn't think a story about a guy afraid of commitment could be so good. In all of his books you learn something new; in this case, about speech problems. He makes life in a small town appealing, and he uses humour to make his characters likeable. The only thing I've noticed is that in all his books, there are no characters with different skin colour or even many ethnic people of any kind, but then maybe that's what Sparks' own life is like. He needs to get out more.

This of all mr.sparks books, i think is one of my favs. The relationship bw the 3 main characters is so heart warming and how they feel about each other. Because i have read all of his books, i havent been able to get into another author s books, like his. so whenever im looking for a good story to read and dont have anything i go and pick up the rescue, and each time i read it it makes me feel like same, happy, sad and sometimes i laugh... Really is a wonderful book..You will love

    Love and Lust IS possible

Nicholas Sparks is without a doubt the best romance author I have read to date. He shows that even when you least expect it, you may stumble across someone that you could fall in love with. Would you ever think it to be possible to fall in love with the person who comes across you in a car accident? Through trials and sufferings, happy and excting times, two people can fall in love and quite possibly never fall out of it. I definitely recommend this book to any and all that have and enjoyed previous Nicholas Sparks novels.

Of all of the Nicholas Sparks' books I've read, this one is my favourite. I cried so much at the end because it was so sad. Then I read it again and cried even more. The way it was written made me really feel what the characters were experiencing. I recommend this book to everyone!!!

I finished this book in less than a day, and for someone who hates reading, that's pretty good. The Rescue gave me goosebumps, and made me cry. A great read for anyone!
