HARPERCOLLINS PUBLISHERS | August 21, 2012 | Hardcover

The Rise of Nine is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 5.

Until the day I met John Smith, Number Four, I''d been on the run alone, hiding and fighting to stay alive.

Together, we are much more powerful. But it could only last so long before we had to separate to find the others. . . .

I went to Spain to find Seven, and I found even more, including a tenth member of the Garde who escaped from Lorien alive. Ella is younger than the rest of us, but just as brave. Now we''re looking for the others-including John.

But so are they.

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They caught me in New York-but I escaped.
I am Number Six.
They want to finish what they started.

But they''ll have to fight us first.

Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Recommended Series The Rise of Nine is the third instalment of the popular I Am Number Four Series. Battles are fought throughout this novel keeping readers on the edge of their seat. The novel begins and ends with action, and action is what makes this novel. I do enjoy action, but I wish Pittacus Lore toned down the action a bit. Comparing this novel to the previous two novels in the series, this novel felt choppy with the multiple perspectives provided. Many times while reading I dreaded when chapters were over because I wanted Four's, Marina's or Six's point of view to continue. The adventures of the Garde continue in The Fall of Five which I anticipate readily.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Action packed, but that's pretty much it I will say right now that I am a big fan of the I Am Number Four (or the Lorien Legacies, however you want to see it as) series. Every single book has been jammed with action and destruction, But for this book, that's really all there is to it. If you are a fan of the series, then this book is definitely satisfying. I have been hooked onto this series shortly after the release of the first book, and the movie that came a few months following. Out of the three books so far, the first one is still the best. I am not saying this book is bad, I still like it, but there's not too much more past the action. The action makes it very suspenseful, as I could not put the book down. The one thing that made this book better than the second book, The Power of Six, was the perspective. I may be mistaking it for another book, but from memory I think The Power of Six was more focused on Marina's (can't remember her number) perspective for a good first chunk of the book, before switching back to Four's. In this book on the other hand, there is a very balanced perspective from some of the characters: Four, Marina and Six. I do think it's interesting how the authors (Pittacus Lore is a pseudonym--there's actually two authors) incorporate their pen name as Lorien's leader in this story. Book three is where the characters really mention Pittacus and his role. Overall, this book is great if you're a fan of the series. But if you didn't really like the first two books, this is not the book for you. Next book is out in August! Two more books before this series is finished...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good enough I was so excited about this book, I preordered it and everything and then when it came out I felt like i was reading something a student would write. It didn't have a spark like the other books. And then came the end, this part I loved, suddenly the characters had depth and I was transported into the book. I felt though that 4 and 9, possibly 6 were the best characters especially 9. But I loved the middle to the end, just bear through the beginning and you have a great story.

Rated out of 5 by from I think this is my favourite book in the series. Lots of action, right from the start, and getting to know new characters. This was a great read, loved it, can't wait for the next one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most action-packed one of the series (There probably will be spoilers from the last two books) I have to say, this is probably the best of the series so far. It picks up right after The Power of Six when the fight in Spain ends. They are now headed to India to find another Loric who can actually shape-shift, which I thought was pretty cool. Right from the beginning, The Rise of Nine was jam-packed with bullets, fighting and also use of their Legacies. What I loved was that I didn't really have to read the first two books over again to remember everything. A lot of the stuff is briefly recapped throughout the book, so it doesn't take long to remember things that happened. It really saved me a lot of time, because I was actually going to re-read the whole series before reading this.. which would've been like torture. The Rise of Nine was told from Four's, Six's, and Seven's, point of view, which I really liked. Since Four was separated from Six and Seven, it was interesting to see the way their stories weaved into each others'. This way, we got to really know the characters and the way they think. I loved seeing all the different Garde working together, and really, just trying to get along and save themselves. I found Nine to be quite a bit of a pain in the butt at times, but he was a really cool guy. He seems like a careless and reckless guy, but he still has a soft spot for his Cepan who he had to watch die. He, like all the others, have feelings and connections for his Cepan. Nine was also hilarious, and would always be joking around when things are supposed to be serious. Another character was also introduced, which I can't say because I'd give spoilers, but he was a REALLY fun character. This was probably the most action-packed novel of the series, and if you loved the others, you'll definitely love this one!! The Rise of Nine was just full of kick-ass characters with kick-ass powers. I wonder when the next book will come out...
