From Our Editors

They're at the centre of a multimillion-dollar legal hurricane - 12 men and women who have been investigated, watched, manipulated, and harassed by high-priced lawyers and consultants who will stop at nothing to secure a verdict. In The Runaway Jury, they must make a decision in the most explosive civil trial of the century, a precedent-setting lawsuit against a giant tobacco company. But only a handful of people know the truth - that this jury has a leader, and the verdict belongs to him. John Grisham is the best-selling author of The Firm.

From the Publisher

He has waited for this moment.
He has planned his every move.
He has made it onto the jury in the most explosive trial of the century.
Now the verdict belongs to him. . . .

They are at the center of a multimillion dollar legal hurricane: twelve men and women who have been investigated, watched, manipulated, and harassed by high-priced lawyers and consultants who will stop at nothing to secure a verdict. Now that the jury must make a decision in the most explosive trial of the century, a precedent-setting lawsuit against a giant tobacco company. But only a handful of people know the truth: that this jury has a leader, and the verdict belongs to him...

He is known only as Juror #2. But he has a name, a past, and he has planned his every move with the help of a beautiful woman on the outside. Now, while a corporate empire hands in the balance, while a grieving family waits, and while lawyers are plunged into a battle for their careers, the truth about Juror #2 is about to explode, in a cross fire of greed and corruption--and with justice fighting for its life...

About the Author

Born on February 8, 1955 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, John Grisham dreamed of being a professional baseball player. Realizing he didn''t have the right stuff, he shifted gears and majored in accounting at Mississippi State University. He practiced law for nearly a decade in Southaven and served in the state House of Representatives until 1990. Inspired by the actual testimony in a rape case, Grisham got up at 5 a.m. every day to get in several hours of writing time before heading off to work. He spent three years on A Time to Kill; it was eventually bought by Wynwood press, who gave it a modest 5,000 copy printing and published it in June 1988. The day after Grisham completed A Time to Kill, he began work on another novel, the story of a hotshot young attorney lured to an apparently perfect law firm that was not what it appeared. Spending 47 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list, The Firm became the bestselling novel of 1991. Grisham lives with his wife and their two children. The family splits their time between their Victorian home on a farm in Mississippi and a plantation near Charlottesville, VA. When he''s not writing, Grisham devotes time to charitable causes. He also keeps up with his greatest passion: baseball. The man who dreamed of being a professional baseball player now serves as the local Little League commissioner. The six ballfields he built on his property have played host to over 350 kids on 26 Little League teams.

All of John Grisham's books are great, but this one is my favortie. The story was put together perfectly and you can't put it down because you have to find out what happens next. The characters all all orginal and exciting to learn about, and the unexpected events in the book made it even better to read. It's a great novel!

Another classic John Grisham in which the drama is nail biting and riveting right to the end. Believe me, you will not put this book down until you've read it front to back. Although it wasn't as intense as the "Client" or "The Rainmaker", it will keep you interested.

This novel was exciting and educational at the same time, since it helped me to learn a great deal about the trials, and the jury. This novel is about cigarette companies beings put on trial, and a person trying to poison the jury's decision, by eliminating the smart jurors one by one.

This is a book that gets back at all those big companies and CEO types that think they are untouchable. I found that this book was well planned out and had good follow through. The people in the book new what they had to do and followed threw to the end with no way of getting caught for any wrong doings. It is a good book and I enjoy Grisham very much. If you now of others authors that are as good as he is could you please e-mail me Thank-you.

    Gripping Grisham 4

This book, is one of the quintessential books on law one should read, and THE book one should read on the inner workings of juries. Now, I am a fan of courtroom oriented books and movies, so naturally I would enjoy this novel, but for the person who finds law bland, this could still be the book for you. We all know John Grisham is a master at suspenseful storytelling and intricate plots, and he sure does not throw away that reputation with this work. An intelligent novel, with interesting… read more

    Slow and Boring 2

As The Runaway Jury was the third John Grisham novel I read, I was quite disapointed. There is not enough action such as courtroom brawls etc. I was bored from page 1, and was glad when it ended. This book is nothing like A Time to Kill or The Chamber.

Not Mr. Grisham's best work. 2

The plot was slow moving and thoroughly uninteresting. The characters were not well developed. Although the author tried to give us insight into each and every juror's psyche, I couldn't tell what made them tick. I also found it hard to keep track of these people: 12 jurors, 3 extras, countless lawyers on each side, and even more outside parties working undercover for the lawyers.

The best aspect of this novel was the thorough and elaborate description of the effects of smoking and the… read more
