(In the event the Chapters-Indigo website deletes my rating, I
mention here that I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars/leaves.)
Overall I enjoyed this one: as a light 'fluffy' novel it was a fun
read. Again, it wasn't the 'deepest' or most thoughtful book ever
written, but taken for what it was it was quite enjoyable.
The main character, McKenzie (yes that does seem to be her first
name), was quite likeable. It was quite enjoyable to meet a
character who wasn't a fighter and who managed to be strong, very
brave and a leader despite this. The adventure was interesting and
things moved along quite well with regards to the plot in general.
I also enjoyed the interaction between the main character and the
other characters, including her eventual love interests.
Some might say that the novel lacked detailed
explanations/descriptions of the fae's world and the motivations
behind the civil war, as these were dealt with more in passing.
However, given the focus of the novel on the point of view of one
character it did work -and I for one wasn't left with an
overwhelming feeling of unanswered questions.
All in all, I enjoyed this one and would recommend it to anyone
looking for a light, fun read.
Other novels I recommend:
-Stormwalker, by Allyson James
-Dragon Bound, by Thea Harrison
-Daughter of the Blood, by Anne Bishop
-Grimspace, by Ann Aguirre
-Transformation, by Carol Berg
-Angel's Blood, by Nalini Singh
-The Demon In Me, by Michelle Rowen
-Cry Wolf, by Patricia Briggs (see also the prequel story in the
short story collection titled, 'On the Prowl')
