The third book in the Secret Histories series brings back some more familiar faces and locations from other Simon R Green worlds. Walker of the Nightside fame is along for the ride as part of a group of super agents tasked with solving five mysteries to gain access to the Independent Agent's secrets before he dies. When the games are done though there can be only one, all the other agents must die.

This book has more of a standalone feel to it than the previous two in the series. Still packed with mayhem and horror, this installment is a departure from the previous two books as the action is toned down and the mystery is amped up. The twists are not that twisty however and our hero is written more along the lines of John Taylor (also of the nightside) than the Eddie Drood of the previous books.

Worth the read but this series is not one that those unfamiliar with Simon's worlds should start their journey in. A great deal of the appreciation of some characters created in other worlds would be lost without some knowledge of their backstory.
