The Supernaturalist

by Eoin Colfer

Disney Book Group | April 20, 2005 | Trade Paperback

In the future, in a place called Satelite City, fourteen-year-old Cosmo Hill enters the world, unwanted by his parents. He's sent to the Clarissa Frayne Institute for Parentally Challenged Boys, Freight class. At Clarissa Frayne, the boys are put to work by the state, testing highly dangerous products. At the end of most days, they are covered with burns, bruises, and sores. Cosmo realizes that if he doesn't escape, he will die at this so-called orphanage. When the moment finally comes, Cosmo seizes his chance and breaks out with the help of the Supernaturalists, a motley crew of kids who all have the same special ability as Cosmo-they can see supernatural Parasites, creatures that feed on the life force of humans. The Supernaturalists patrol the city at night, hunting the Parasites in hopes of saving what's left of humanity in Satellite City. Or so they think. The Supernaturalist soon find themselves caught in a web far more complicated than they'd imagined, when they discover a horrifying secret that will force them to question everything they believe in. Eoin Colfer has created an eerie and captivating world-part Blade Runner, part futuristic Dickens-replete with non-stop action

Not up to Artemis Fowl books.

I thought this book was okay. It took me a long time to get into it. The characters were the best part - it took me a while to get into the plot and this future world wasn't all that interesting. I didn't really like the ending. If somebody liked his other books, I wouldn't discourage them from reading it, but I'd definitely steer people to Artemis Fowl first.

This book is a great book for anyone who thinks about the future and what it will it be like? This book is one of the best books I have every read! It made me think and some times it's hard to find a book that makes you question the way things are done, and if the future really will be that bad. all in all it was a great book with a little bit of everything.

When i first picked up this book i was like...oh great another sci-fy thingy, but it really surprized me. I like books that start off fast and don't linger too much, but still gets you liking the characters. This book did that seemingly effortlessly. I dont know about you other readers, but my fav character was definetly Stephen...so for those of you who have already read it.....well i'm sure you know what i'm feelin' right now.......uh huh...thats right. *tear*. Anywho...really great book, fast-paced and super cool. I hate sci fy and even i really enjoyed this book! It was kind of ambigious as to whether theres a sequel but my fingers are crossed!

I don't usually read Sci-Fi, but since this was an Eoin Colfer book, I decided to read it. It was really good! I don't want to spoil things for the others who haven't read it yet, but you should get ready for the many twists and turns planted in this awesome book.

Colfer is possibly one of my favorite authors, as well as myself and Rowling. I read this book as soon as I saw the author. I had recently finished the Artemis Fowl series, and really enjoyed them. I soon found out that this book is very different. It is possible one of the best books i have EVER read!!! I think if you liked the Fowl books, this book is definantly for you. It is set in the distant future, and Colfer definantly has creative visions of what it is like there. If you are stuck on your computer, or just need a good read, come down and purchase this one, it is the building block for books to come!
