The Sweet Far Thing

by Libba Bray

Random House Children's Books | April 28, 2009 | Trade Paperback

* "A huge work of massive ambition."-Publishers Weekly, Starred

It has been a year of change since Gemma Doyle arrived at the foreboding Spence Academy. Her mother murdered, her father alaudanum addict, Gemma has relied on an unsuspected strength and has discovered an ability to travel to an enchanted world called the realms, where dark magic runs wild. Despite certain peril, Gemma has bound the magic to herself and forged unlikely new alliances. Now, as Gemma approaches her London debut, the time has come to test these bonds.

The Order-the mysterious group her mother was once part of-is grappling for control of the realms, as is the Rakshana. Spence''s burned East Wing is being rebuilt, but why now? Gemma and her friends see Pippa, but she is not the same. And their friendship faces its gravest trial as Gemma must decide once and for all what role she is meant for.

Great series but I was a little disappointed with the way it ended. However after I got addicted to the series I had to keep reading all the way through.

this was by far my favourite book out of the three. i thought that A Great and Terrible Beauty was good as well, but this was really good. Rebel Angles was good too but it was like a continuation from A great and Terrible Beauty, and it was dragging me along until i got to the sweet far thing.

    Meh...

I loved the first two books in this series. They were both gripping and entertaining; I couldn't put them down. Then I started this one. It rambled on for eight hundred pages, when the important content could have easily fit into the same amount of pages as the other two books, and because it was so slow going, it took me over a month to get to an ending that I hated. I, personally, wouldn't read this book, or series, again.

I couldn't even get to the ending. by the third book, I was tired of these girls, tired of their whining and back stabbing. I actually swore off YA for a while after it. I found I was left asking what happened to the positive female characters? They sure weren't here.

This book was absolutll amazing! I just couldn't put down the book and was so interested in what would happen next. I would go from laughing to crying in one book. I definatly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a romance book with a bit of a twist to it.
