A very strange story about a grieving couple who become separated following the death of their small boy. The main character is the husband who cannot shake his grief and loses his will to live. Just as desperation seems to doom him, he meets with a strange old man that offers to fix one of the boy's broken toys that the father happened to have with him. In an interesting parallel, as the toy becomes whole again the father is able to overcome some of his grief. He begins to give more broken toys to the mysterious stranger and this results in his quick psychiatric recovery. This story is quite short - about 150 pages - but costs the sames as a regular novel. You may want to get this from the library as a result. As far as the story goes, it is well written but I couldn't really warm up to it. I felt it was lacking substance and I didn't like the ending. I usually love Lebbon's novels but this one just didn't do it for me. If you are into grieving dads meeting with supernatural occurences you might try it. Of course, if you like that, you are better off with "Pet Cemetary" instead
