The Unfinished Gift: A Novel

by Dan Walsh

Baker Publishing Group | September 1, 2009 | Hardcover

Patrick Collins is seven years old, and on his Christmas list are only three items. He wants the army to find his father. He wants to leave his grandfather''s house. And, for reasons even he doesn''t understand, he wants the soldier that''s tucked away in his grandfather''s attic. Set at Christmastime in 1943, The Unfinished Gift tells in an engaging, simple style the story of a family, and reminds us of the surprising things that affect powerful change in our hearts--like a young boy''s prayers, a shoebox full of love letters, and even an old wooden soldier, long forgotten. This nostalgic story of forgiveness will engage readers everywhere.

Redemption is triumphant!

Chantal Wiebe

What if you couldn't be there for your child? It's a fear that all parents have. And it's a frightening image that can emotionally scar parents who've been prematurely separated from their children. But what if you were taken from your child, rather than the other way around? That's precisely the journey that Patrick Collins stumbles through in this story, suddently alone and at the mercy of a social worker and an unkind grandfather when his mother is killed in a car accident. With his father off in Germany fighting WWII, Patrick is parentless. It's a story of redemption, release, and righting of wrongs. Get it and read it. But beware, you will need a box of tissues with this one.
