About the Author

Sheila Fischman is one of Canada''s premier translators. She has translated over 125 books and for her work was awarded the Molson Prize in 2008. In 2007, her translation of Jacques Poulin''s novel My Sister''s Blue Eyes was a finalist for the Governor General''s Literary Award for Translation, and in 2006, her translation of Pascale Quiviger''s novel The Perfect Circle was shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.

Born in Québec City, Christiane Frenette is the author of several collections of poetry, including Indigo nuit, for which she received the Prix Octave-Crémazie, and Cérémonie mémoire, which was nominated for the Governor General''s Literary Award. In 1998 she won the Governor General''s Literary Award for her novel, La Terre ferme, her first novel, which was translated by Sheila Fischman as Terra Firma and published by Cormorant Books in 1999. Her novel Après la nuit rouge (After the Red Night), won the Prix littéraire Ville de Québec in 2006
