Hannah Baker. Everybody knows her because she committed suicide. Everyone thought it was over, but not for Clay and 12 others persons. Each of them received a mysterious box with 13 stories on cassettes. It was Hannah's voice in those, and they were the reason why she killed herself.
This book is absolutely amazing. We can feel the pain that Hannah as been through and of course of Clay, who is listening to those tapes. Each chapter is a new story, and each tape they grow up in intensity. We could understand why Hannah had done it, even thought it's never the right solution. I loved this book because I could relate to it in some of those stories. This book is so heart wrenching because I still hoped that Hannah had not committed suicide, that she was still here, trying to survive.

I don't know why I waited so long to read this book but fortunately I finally did. Now, I couldn't be more grateful to have such a meaningful and inspiring read, yet devastating at the same time. I really love Jay Asher's second novel co-written with Carolyn Mackler The Future of Us. Yet, it is Thirteen Reasons Why that absolutely touched me and placed Jay Asher among my favorite YA authors!

It is incredible how you can find so much in one novel. Thirteen Reasons Why is a powerful read and it makes you reflect about the way you treat others. Sometimes, just one little thing can be a great weight in other people's shoulders. Also, this book highlights the fact that we never really know or understand what's going on in other people's life. Thirteen Reasons Why is not just a devastating story about a girl who commits suicide; A girl that leaves a box with voice recorded cassettes to thirteen people explaining how each one of them is one of the Thirteen Reasons Why she ended her life. This book goes so much deeper than that and regardless its heavy and dark theme, it brights with hope at the end of it. Thirteen Reasons Why is a novel that highly inspires people to become a better person.

Clay is certainly one of my most beloved characters. He is one of the thirteen people in Hanna's cassettes and we listen to Hanna's story through Clay's ears. He is such a unique boy and it is heartbreaking to listen to Hanna's voice through his perspective. In the other hand, Hanna is one of the most particular character I have come across. I had a storm of emotions through every cassette Hanna recorded. Sometimes, it was hard to accept and believe some of the things she said, and sometimes I was absolutely sympathetic towards Hanna. At the end, same as Clay, I get to know Hanna and feel for her and for everything she went through. From the loveliest moment to the most tormenting and unfair experience she went through that lead her to commit the horrific act of ending her own life.

Thirteen Reasons Why is a devastating story about bullying, lack of support, loneliness and many other things that can lead to depression to teens and adults alike. "Everything affects everything" as Hanna said, when you are dealing with this psychological problem that unfortunately many people suffers everyday.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher is a book we can learn a lot from. This book inspires us to become a better a person, to be more understandable and supportive, to care about people without holding back because there is people that really needs you by their side. Thirteen Reasons Why is a novel that says it Loud and Clear; Don't wait for those people who need you by their side to ask for your help, they might never do it, and then it could be too late. So, take the first step by yourself and offer your support, don't hold back.

This was an excellent book. I finished it in two days. Jay Asher did a wonderful job at portraying the horrible things we all do to each other and the tragic consequences they can have. My best friend went out and bought her own copy because it was just THAT good.

The novel provided a unique plot the likes of which I have not seen. I enjoyes Asher's writing but felt as though there was something missing. Though I enjoyed the story, I felt as though there could have been more

When I first saw this book around, I avoided it like the plague. I know people who've had to deal with family members taking their own life (and it's awful), so I'm really sensitive about reading a book that revolves around suicide. But now I wish I'd picked this one up sooner.

Thirteen Reasons Why is an amazing book! Everything about it is just so breathtaking and well-executed and shockingly realistic. As Hannah's telling her story, you get attached to this beautiful girl and find yourself rooting for her to live even though you already know the outcome.

I adore Clay! He's such a genuinely sweet guy; the kind of guy that girls have crushes on and moms just love. So that's why I couldn't help but continuously wonder what his part in Hannah's death could've possibly been. After all, Clay had a crush on Hannah before she died.

But there's not just thirteen separate reasons why Hannah Baker decided to do what she did - they're all connected like an intricate web that I wouldn't be able to write better if I tried. This book shows that suicide isn't caused by just one big reason, but many little ones. I couldn't stop reading until I knew the whole story!

Nothing short of amazing, Thirteen Reasons Why is a beautiful, thought-provoking, and devastating book that kept me up all night. Even if you're hesitant to pick it up like I was, I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone reads it! People have said that this book has saved their life and I don't doubt it one bit.

BUY or BORROW?: Buy it! It was one of the most touching books I've read this year, and I'm so happy that there's going to be a movie coming out starring Selena Gomez! She's such an awesome actress and I think she'll do great as Hannah. :)

I didn't like this book at all. I found it confusing as it jumped back and forth between Hannah and Clay. It was hard to tell who was speaking. It also went on and on and it could have gotten to the point much faster. It was boring and at points I had to skim because I couldn't keep interested. Very disappointing.

This book was great. No doubt about it. But it just kind of scared me to think that she killed herself over this. Over the events that are being relived through the tapes. It's sad and scary thinking that someone, anyone, can go through these events in real life and choose the same fate as chosen here. Suicide is never the answer, though some may choose it. The problem here was that the girl didn't tell anyone the whole story, until after she was dead. That's the sad thing, and that's just not right. But this is a great book and I know many would agree with me if I told you to read it. So please do so!

Hannahs feeling are similer to my own in a way. I can tell you what ahppens all I can say is that you might want to read this book or you might want to read the first page and never look at it again. Turt me that is how I felt firt. Our English class is reading this and I all ready knew what was going to happen. All the boys we read in English class are not about happy characters or of a character who loves their lives. I knew that someone was going to die or was all ready dead when the libaran haned me over the book.It got me thinking and it made me feel sad reading about the reasons why Hannah decied to end life.

Have you read this book yet? If your answer is no, then why not?

Thirteen Reasons Why is one of those books that you read that leaves a lasting impression on you once you are done.. I personally have recommended it to pretty much everyone who has asked me the question "do you have any recommendations for a good book to read?" in the past month and a half. In fact, I sent my copy home with one of my assistants when she went on vacation. This is one of those books that I wish they would make part of the regular high school curriculum. There is so much to be learned from this book and so much relevance to a teenager's life, no matter what decade it happens to be. I wish this book had been around when I was in high school. It would have explained so much to not only me, but my peers as well.

Not everyone who reads this book will like it. In fact some will hate it and some will tell you that it's not believable. In my opinion, they are missing the point.

For me, the book wasn't so much about suicide as it was about demonstrating the consequences of of our actions. To me, the book was about the fact that we are all connected as people and have the ability to influence each others lives, good or bad. The book was about recognizing that what seems like it's no big deal to you and me, can mean the world to someone else. The book at it's core, for me, is about recognizing that my actions and my words just aren't about me and that they have the ability to hurt or to heal; enlighten or deceive.

That is the reason why I will read this book again and again and continue to recommend it to anyone who asks.

Not the impact I hoped for

The message from Thirteen Reasons Why was great, as were the ideas. However, I had a problem with some of the characters. Hearing the story from Hannah was fantastic, but the revelation about the other main character, Clay, was a huge disappointment. It was a kind of anti-climax. Also, I felt that as the author neared the end of the book he put less attention into each story. The stories got shorter and less detailed one by one, almost as if the author was getting lazy or struggling to finish. Overall, the book didn't have the impact I thought it would.

This book was about cassette tapes, and a boy named clay who had to listen to why he and 12 other ppl cause a young girl to commit suicide. This book sounds really dark and disturbing, but its actually very inturging, start to finish. I couldnt pu the book down. I wanted to find out what happened to her, but mostly I wanted to know why Clay was in these cassettes.

    My Reason Why

    Lex (Eyes on the Pages)

Let me first start off by saying that the point of this book isn't to be an amazingly fantastic read, but it's meant to pull you in and then hopefully spit you out as a better person.

Hannah's reasons even sounded a bit . . . not nessecarily dumb, but not as earth shaking as I thought they would be, at least to me they did. However, as mentioned through her tapes, it's not the act of the individual reasons, it's the effect they had on her all together. It's like telling someone to lift up 5 pounds. Easy, right? But what happens when you add five more? And then five more after that? And then add on another five . . . Well, you get my point. The weight gets to a point where you can't hold it anymore and give up, letting it all collapse around you, just like Hannah did.

And that's my reason why I give this book five red maple leaves out of five. Not nessecarily for the content of the book, but for it's message. Although I am shamed to admit it, I have been in situations where people aren't too happy and I've just ducked my head and pretended not to notice. Why did I do it? Because I was afraid to get involved, what if they suddenly turned on me and now my life was a mess? I just didn't want that; so I kept walking.

Thirteen Reasons Why is a book that I would read with an open mind. If you're just looking for a good read, I wouldn't suggest this book, because that's not what the focus is about. (Being an exciting read to make money) No, this book is about standing up for others and treating them with the respect they diserve. It's about getting out a message that even if all you did was stand there while kids were making fun of someone else, you may not be apart of the problem, but you sure as hell weren't apart of the solution either.

I'm sitting here, and it's 2AM and I probably won't get to sleep for another hour because this book has gotten my mind so stirred up I'll be lucky if I can even calm it down in that amount of time. This book is definately thought-provoking and I really do believe that the school board should use it in the school curriculum because I have no doubt that - while it may not change everyone - a lot of kids will walk away from it changed. Not to the point where they all become saints, but instead in a way that will help them realize how much of an impact simply leaving them to fend for themselves can have.

I am not a fan of this book. Mainly it's because I don't think that Hannah's "thirteen reasons" were good enough. I think Jay Asher sort of made light of suicide. If those thirteen reasons were acceptable, then everyone who has ever been to high school has reason enough to commit suicide. I appreciate the fact that everyone handles things differently, and that people may have killed themselves for less, but I think with such a powerful topic there could've been better reasons.

I also was upset by Hannah's nonchalance on the tapes. There wasn't enough distress in her voice. Come to think of it, Clay, the other main character, acted oddly as well.

I just think that this book was lacking in a lot of ways. More than I mentioned. It wasn't terrible, but it's not my cup of tea.

This book is one I saw randomly on the page. I did not come here specifically looking for it but I am so glad it found me. I honestly read this book in one sitting because I just could not put it down. The writing is fantastic and the message is even better. This book will change how you interact with people, how you treat people and really goes along with the saying about walking a mile in someone else's shoes. I do not believe this book fits with the 13-17 age category, although I do think people of that age should be reading it. This book should be read by everyone.

Adults, especially parents, don't always know the things that run through adolescent minds, this book is an open invitation to that. Adolescents don't always realize that others feel the same ways that they do and that they are not alone. This book also shows that. This book is a terribly sad story, however it is a completely awakening story and one that should be read cover to cover. You never realise how one moment with someone can change things for them, and sometimes it really is too late to go back and fix things so why not reach out when you can (even if you end up being mistaken wouldn't you rather feel silly than the way the characters end up feeling in this book).

This book deserves a 5 star rating and I am forever changed by reading it.

The author obviously knows how to write emotions. The pain and fear that the characters go through feel very real. The problem is that I can't sympathize with the characters, not even Hannah. The sending of the tapes makes her come off as a bit pretentious and a bit of a coward. To me, it says that she did have to ability to confront people about what they've done to her, but didn't have the courage to face their reactions.

The only character that I can somewhat sympathize with is Clay, who seems the most human out of everyone. He reacts and feels emotions that us as readers have probably felt before, and handles it in a realistic fashion. If it wasn't for Clay, I would have a hard time finishing the book, simply because I couldn't step into any of the other character's shoes.

Overall, the plot is written well, but I can't say the same for the characters.
