Thirteen Reasons Why is a powerful, emotional book, that really makes you reflect on your life and the impact you have on others. Its amazing and a great book for teens! The plot is amazing and so real, and the characters are so... Wow. Every character in this book has a story, and we not only get to see Hannah's story, but Clay's, and part of everyone else's. For even the smallest amount of time we get to know each character, readers get a feel for who they are and their personallities. We get to see how they react in certain situations, and get to really put ourselves in, like i said before, not only Hannah's shoes, but everyones. Clay is... Well, he is certaintely the right character for this book. The emotions and feelings he goes through is astonding, and the fact that we, readers, can connect with him and understand what he - and Hannah, too - are going through really is a sign of great writing. I feel like we really get to know him throughout this short period of time - a little over 48 hours - and we really get to figure out what kind of person he is. Hannah is such a great character. We get to know her overtime, and she definitely fits this story. Her story's so sad, yet so touching and powerful. Like Clay, she is so deep and real. The best part of Thirteen Reasons Why is the messages we can relate to and the connections readers make to their own personal lives. We have to realize that we can't just give up. We have to keep trying because one day it will get better. Although it may be far, far away, that day will come. I'm telling you now, we can learn a lot about this book through Hannah's story. The ending proves that if we try to understand someone, even if that means just listening to them talk to you about, well, about anything, we can get through to them. Yes, thats not what the ending completely means, but it's hope for a better tomorrow. At least Clay learns from his... Mistake... and applies that to his own - and other peoples - life (or lives.) I couldn't be more happy with the ending. But, honestly, the messages that come across to readers are amazing, inspiring and real. This is truly an amazing book, one every teenager should read at some point in their lives. Because Thirteen Reasons Why can motivate one person - just one person - to make a difference. This is an deep, dark, and beautiful book that can truly change lives.

a story about pre-suicide and the aftermath. asher does an extremely good job of written from perspective of the girl (who commits suicide) and the people (clay & tony) who are left to pick up the pieces. i liked that the reader got to hear both side of the story. a lot of times we only hear one side and become bias. 13 reasons shows you everything from the beginning to the end of the incident. it is not just a story of bullying, neglect and loneliness, but a story friendship, misunderstanding, growing up, sexuality and how your actions can change an entire life. as the reader you are frustrated and sympathize with all the characters. is it their naivety or plain ignorance? that causes the end result for all of them. a great read about cause and effect. should be read by everyone of all ages. good way to open your eyes to people who are in front of you. i think everyone who reads this will take something from it. the book may not directly affect you but it will open your mind and heart.

This book was so captivating, I was looking for a good read one day and a girl on twitter told me about it. The next day I went out and bought it. I read this book in 3 days and i've reccommended it to all of my friends. I HIGHLY encourage everyone to read this book, it changed my view on life. Jay Asher is a wonderful authour

Their really isn't that much to say about this book it's just so perfect. The book shows that even little things can change, or end a person's life. It change's the way you see the world but not in a preachey way. This is a book that everyone should read for sure. This is by far one of the best books I've ever read. It's perfect for everyone no matter what kind of books you normally read. I can not wait for the movie!

This captivating although painful read, should be read by every high school student and every parent at minimum. It is a view into the consequences of our actions and the compound effect of what we think of as singular events. I hope that the effects of this book last in my interactions with friends, family, acquaintances ... and strangers.

Clay's journey in the book is one that will shatter you and force you to rethink the way you interact with everyone around you. If you think you're ready to have your world turned upside down, this is the book for you.

Wow.. I had to start my review with wow. This book has seriously touched me deeply, I am in love with this book and with Hanna. This book makes you realize how one simple action on your part can have a big reaction on someone else's life, something to you that might be very ridiculous might actually mean the world to someone else. What actions you do, what you say has an impact on others. Powerful emotions throughout the book, Hanna is a strong character I loved her, but at one point the snowball effect just continues to grow and giving up is the only way. I was mad at Clay for not telling her how he feels before which is sad because they could've had a great romance together. This book is plain brilliant, it has everything and keeps you hooked throughout it all. I also loved the tapes and how she makes the people realize what they did to her and how it all started for her to end up in that position. A must-read, this book will stay with me for a very long time.

I love this book it is so relevant to alot of bullying in the world that is going on right mow. Its a journey that draws you in and keeps you reading. A must read!

Thirteen Reasons Why was written by Jay Asher and originally published in October 2007 by Razorbill. The story follows what started out as a normal day for Clay Jensen. He is a good guy who is smart and well liked, so he thinks nothing of it when he receives a package one day. When he opens it up he finds seven cassettes from his former crush Hannah Baker who has recently committed suicide. When he listens to the tapes he hears that there are thirteen reasons why she took her own life and he happens to be one of those reasons. “I hope you're ready, because I'm about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended. And if you're listening to these tapes, you're one of the reasons why. The rules are pretty simple. There are only two, rule number one: you listen, number two you pass it on.” Now Clay must listen to the cassettes as hard as it is to find out how he impacted Hannah’s life. He doesn’t know how he fits in but he will follow the rules and see what those thirteen reasons are. What a hauntingly beautiful book. I don’t know why I waited so long to read it (I guess it’s because I thought the subject matter was depressing) If you haven’t read it yet I highly suggest that you do. This book is a great example of the importance of treating people with respect and how truly fragile humans can be. The story is told through dual narration from both Clay’s thoughts and Hannah’s recorded words on the cassettes. At times it is a little confusing because Clay is thinking something and Hannah is talking about something else. I found it very hard knowing from the get go that nothing would change the outcome for our character and that the ending would not be a happy one. It is especially heart breaking because Clay genuinely loved Hannah from afar but neither of them really got the courage up to talk to each other even though they spent so much time together at work. I was angry that Hannah was kind of selfish to put the people through this especially Clay and really only reached out for help partially. She had made up her mind to take her life and so it felt like she didn’t really want to get help. Sometimes I sympathized with Hannah and other times I wanted to scream at her. Clay really starts thinking of all the things that he can remember about Hannah and it makes me think about things that have happened in my life as well. You need to be aware that action and/or inaction can truly have a big effect on others. Ths is a good story to get teens talking about suicide and also to get them talking and thinking about bullying, guilt, love etc. I think that this would be a great addition to junior/high school curriculum to start an awareness and dialogue between teens. We need to make these students realize that what they say and do is important. Universal studios purchased the film rights in February 2011. Hopefully the movie will get made and do the book justice.
