BRAZIER/THRIVE DIET

About the Author

Brendan Brazier is one of only a few professional athletes in the world whose diet is 100 percent plant based. He's a professional Ironman triathlete, bestselling author on performance nutrition, and the creator of an award-winning line of whole food nutritional products called Vega. He is also the 2003 and 2006 Canadian 50km Ultra Marathon Champion.

Nominated in 2006 for the Manning Innovation Award, Canada's most prestigious award for innovation, Brendan was short-listed for the formulation of Vega.

In 2006, Brendan also was invited to address US Congress on Capitol Hill, where he spoke of the significant social and economic benefits that could be achieved by improving personal health through better diet. The focus of his talk was to draw attention to the role that food plays in the prevention of most chronic diseases currently plaguing North Americans.

In 2007 Brendan was named one of The 25 Most Fascinating Vegetarians by VegNews Magazine.

Brendan has become a renowned speaker and sought-after presenter throughout North America, helping individuals and businesses thrive by sharing his dietary stress-busting program, the Thrive Diet.

Brendan is from North Vancouver, BC. But spends most of his time on the road touring.

From the Critics

"An authoritative guide to outstanding performance, not just in top-level athletics, but in day-to-day life… A state-of-the-art program for top health."
-Neal Barnard, M.D., President, Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine

"Brendan Brazier has a knack for simplifying the connection between diet and health. He makes his points clearly, obviously culled from much research."
-Ottawa Citizen

"During my career I've always surrounded myself with people who are the best in their field, whether it's my triathlon coach, an exercise scientist or massage therapist I've always sought the advice and guidance of individuals with a passion for excellence who never compromise. Brendan is simply the best nutritionalist I've found; his knowledge is second to none. I read The Thrive Diet and was enthralled that after reading so many books and meeting with so many experts, Brendan was able to explain his thoughts on nutrition in such a clear and insightful way. My Thrive Diet copy rests alone in the kitchen, tattered pages stained with beet juice and hemp oil. I only hope my competition doesn't read this book until after I'm done competing"
-Simon Whitfield, Olympic gold medalist (triathlon, Sydney 2000)

"Quite possibly the most life-changing book you'll ever read. For maximizing fitness and vitality, The Thrive Diet has no equal."
-Erik Marcus, publisher of Vegan.com

"Filled with powerful information that will forever change the way you address life's daily speed bumps. You owe it to yourself to listen carefully to Brazier's advice for controlling the negative stresses of 21st Century living."
-Joseph Connelly, founder and publisher, VegNews Magazine

Brendan has done something amazing for us... he has given us recipes for amazingly yummy foods that you can feel good about inside and out! Stress does affect us all, and by helping our bodies have as little physiological stress as possible, the foods and information in this book make it easier to spend your energy where you want to, on life, rather than in the boring waste-of-time state of digestion. The athlete specific stuff was amazing and my training has taken on a whole new level now… read more

What an excellent book. I got The Thrive Diet as a birthday present while camping and I read the entire book with-in three days. It was such a great, inspiring read. I was familiar with the author Brendan Brazier’s main message as I had just finished his new (and free!) Thrive in 30 program offered from his website. The book has clarified and expanded on those points, where I now have a much better understanding on his approach to a healthy body (and mind). I love his premise on reducing… read more

    Vegans, redeem yourselves... 3

You may have to have been familiar with him prior (i.e. tried Vega products) in order to understand where he's coming from but he tries his best to explain his theories on vegan eating to newcomers. And that's part of the big problem that I had with this book: Brendan stating "fact" without footnote. There is a reference section but it's a bit inadequate considering all the science he drops. The index could also use a bit of work because there's yet to be a time where I look something up in… read more

    love it! 5

The popped amaranth worked fine for me. I think that sometimes it gets too dried out if you buy it in bulk, then it might not pop. But if you use fresher stuff from a package, it will work well. Or even soak it for a bit. Without moisture it can’t expand and therefore pop. love the recipes! They’re so easy to make and fit in with my busy lifestyle. I started eating more whole foods about two years ago and did find that since moisture levels in different crops and freshness levels can vary in… read more

and I never write 'bad' reviews .. 2

The first section on food is wonderful, but the recipes are terrible, it's almost as if they didn't actually make them. And don't, whatever you do, try to pop amaranth in your hot air popcorn popper (as suggested in the book) not only did i make the biggest mess EVER, it broke my popcorn popper! The concept of the recipes is good but they need more work. Disappointing.

    • I liked the book and the infor, but i have to agree about SOME of the recipes. In some cases it almost seems like there was a misprint on the quantities ... read more
