Timeline

by CRICHTON MICHAEL

Random House Large Print | June 25, 2009 | Hardcover

Michael Crichton''s new novel opens on the threshold of the twenty-first century. It is a world of exploding advances on the frontiers of technology. Information moves instantly between two points, without wires or networks. Computers are built from single molecules. Any moment of the past can be actualized -- and a group of historians can enter, literally, life in fourteenth-century
feudal France.

Imagine the risks of such a journey.

Not since Jurassic Park has Michael Crichton given us such a magnificent adventure. Here, he combines a science of the future -- the emerging field of quantum technology -- with the complex realities of the medieval past. In a heart-stopping narrative, Timeline carries us into a realm of unexpected suspense and danger, overturning our most basic ideas of what is possible

Fast paced and adventurous, Chrichton takes us all on a journey to the living past. The characters were true, the setting was richly imaginined and detailed, and the race against the clock made it hard to put down! I found there were some philosphical holes in the time travel construction, but once you get past that its a great novel that I highly reccomend.

Good detail per time frame, otherwise your standard time travel novel. A good read to pass the time.

This novel was great. It was fast paced, exciting and educational. The reader along with the characters were dropped into the middle of the Hundred Year War with the use of some not so unrealistic technology.
I found that even though the situation probably won't happen in real life, Crichton made it seem believeable. It was very easy for me to close my eyes and picture Chris over coming his fear and fighting knights or Marek falling in love with Lady Claire. I learned a lot about medieval times, customs and traditions through this book.
The characters were well developed, the plot was well written and the overall book was impressing. Crichton did an excellent job writing this book and it is obvious that it was well researched. Incredible!

After receiving a plea for help from their professor, a group of archaeological students travel back 652 years in time to rescue him. Here's the catch; they have to find him amidst the vast sea of ancient people, successfully navigate an alien landscape and avoid most of the serious predicaments of the era and they have only 37 hours to do so. Once again Michael Crichton pulls off an ingenious novel. Timeline captures the full meaning of action-packed and holds you captive throughout. The characters are genuine and the setting is written just as realistically. Dramatic and thrilling, Timeline is the perfect book for those who long to visit the past and who love to look to the future. Carefully researched, the story convinces you that these events are all within the realm of possibility. Soon you're enjoying the ride so much that you can't stop to analyze how you wound up there.
