I read it in 2008 and i thought it was a nice story about bella falling in love with a vampire. before i read twilight i have seeing often at different book store for a while and one day i decide to pick up the book and read the back of it. to me it look interesting and different so a few month later i finally decide to buy the book. i read it in two month it was easy to finish it and i saw the movie a few day after. I love all the characters they are all different. My favorite character have to be bella. i also like Edward and Jacob they are awesome. The story was easy to undertand and the idea of it was simple. so i recommended this book for people who like love stories(like me) and Vampires.

After reading this almost 3 years ago, it's hard to give a proper review. I used to love this book. I got the majority of the women in my family to read it and some of my friends at work hooked too. Originally, I had an electronic copy of the first three Twilight books because I heard of a movie coming out. So I started Twilight in the late spring.

I don't think I even got past the first chapter. Maybe that was a sign.

Then again in August when the fans of the books were getting even more excited because it was close to November, I started to read Twilight again. I think I read it in a week. Then I read New Moon, followed very closely by Eclipse. By the time I had finished Eclipse I had the first three books, plus the newly released Breaking Dawn on order from Chapters online. I still can't believe how fast I read those books. And I loved Breaking Dawn.

I think, for me, the books were there at a time where my reading habits were changing. I had grown out of MG books but I wasn't quite interested in Adult yet. Harry Potter was over and I needed a new series to cling to. So I did, for a time.

Then I started to read reviews of the books. A lot of bad reviews pointing out the flaws that I hadn't seen in these books. How overly simple they were, how abusive Edward and Jacob were, how Stephenie Meyer was pushing her anti-abortion views in Breaking Dawn. Blah, blah, blah... And I let those reviews sway my opinion of the entire series. I started second guessing my love of the series and my reasons for reading it so fast.

But in the end I still loved the Twilight universe. I continued to follow fan sites and read fan fiction and looked at the beautiful art depicting the characters of the Twilight universe. Life was good. I re-read the books another time.

Then I got bored of just reading about Edward and his sparkles.
Suddenly I realised Twilight was so much less than I had built it up to be. I became embarrassed to admit I had a love for a book that 12 year old girls loved just as much (and waaay more, too).

I've tried to read Eclipse again (it was my favourite) but it comes off as way too cheesy. Maybe my taste in reading has changed. Maybe I've moved away from being a teenager completely. Maybe I just was so clouded by sparkling vampires that I couldn't see the problems with the books. I don't know why I loved them so much and now I don't know why I can't stand to read the books now.

In Twilight, Stephenie Meyer has uniquely touched upon the subject of a human meeting a vampire that fall in love and have a romantic relationship with each other. She has started a huge franchise that has spawned 5 movies (each based upon 1 of her 4 books, the last book divided into 2 movies). She has used her talent to write a wonderful story that readers can easily get into. When I read it for the first time, I was amazed at how precise and wonderful the details were and how wonderfully everything flowed. Being completely honest, I was sorry it ended. If you're wondering what to read next, I would strong recommend Twilight!

A Main Character with No Personality

This review is from: Twilight (Trade Paperback)

I read a blog that said it best: "Her appearance isn't described in detail; that way, any female can slip into it and easily fantasize about being this person. By creating this "empty shell," the character becomes less of a person and more of something a female reader can put on and wear." Not only does the main character not have a personality, she is completely controlled by Edward. I didn't finish the book because: one, this lack of character bored me; two, telling young girls that they need a man to function is not cool with me; and three, the writing lacked any spark or talent. A complete waste of my time... but I guess if you want to read a crappy book that isn't even good gulity pleasure crappy, be my guest.

It took me a few chapters to really get interested in this story. I do not like the main character Bella, partly because I know that Kristin Stewart played her role in the "Twilight" movie and ruined the character with her poor acting skills. Anything that usually involves monster-human love relationships will bring calamity to a story especially this one! The book is okay for a one time read.

The story line is kind of cool and interesting. Vampires are overused but Twilight makes them seem okay.

The characters on the other hand annoyed me at times. I loved some of them, like Alice and Jasper. But Bella. I can't really explain. I just dislike her. And Edward too.

The book is definitely better than the movie.

I can't say I like this book, but it was good to try out since I heard so much about it.

One of the greatest series of all time. Millions of people around the world have read the books and seen the movie. Books are still the best by the way because there is a bunch of extra stuff and emotions not conveyed/shown in the movies.

As far as vampire novels go these are the bottom of the barrel. Bella is the most awful annoying useless heroine ever. She is continuously trying to throw her entire life away for a boy. What an awful role model for young girls. The book reads like it was written by a thirteen year old, I think that if it were actually written by a thirteen year old I would have a completely different outlook on it. When it comes to Vampire novels for teens there is just so many stories that are well written with heroines who actually have self respect.

Yeah, I love Twilight. But, Idon't like Bella she's always so depressed and she fell for Edward just a little to fast like, I mean he's tottaly hot and he sparkel's. But still don't go and tell him "oh you mean the world to me I love you so much." After a week. Oh and I'm 13 and I could have never ever written Twilight. (And I'm a really really good writter.) And what's your favorite vampire book?

    Caitlin Nicole

As a teenager the Christopher Pike Last Vampire novels were my favourite (They've now been re-released under the title Thirst) or many of the Buffy novels. The old Vampire Diaries (pre-The Return) were also pretty decent as well. I really wish Bella could have been more like Rosalie, thats a heroine I can stand behind.

The way this book changed me is when I was in grade five, I was basically dumb. I didn't read at all, my reading level was grade three. But then I saw the movie and I was like OH.MY.GOSH. I fell in love with the movie and, since I loved it so much I went out to Chapter's and bought it and I was like this is sooooo huge but I have to read it. It was March and I was like I have to finish this and New moon before June 30. I'm never going to be able to finish it. But I read Twilight every night and got it done in two days. That was the fastest Iever read a book in my life. So then after that I finished New moon in four days because my Mom got mad at me for staying up till like two in the mourning and reading. Then I finished Eclipse and then I read Breaking dawn. In that amont of time March to April I read the series elevin times, and it's two years later now and, I've read more book's then I had in my hole intire life. That's how Twilight changed my life, Thank you Stephenie Meyer.

I heard so much about this series so I bought the first book to judge for myself to see if the hype is all it is talked about. It started off slow but then once I got to know all the characters I enjoyed the story but when I saw the movie it was nothing like the book. The actors they casted did no justice to the book itself and I will not read the other books that follow it is not my kind of books.

What more can I say about this book that hasn't already been said? I suggest it to everyone young and old. I was skeptical at first, but once I got into it I realized how amazing this story really was and there was no turning back!

I was disappointed with the movie because the book made such an impression on me, that I don't think any movie could top it.

but the movie had less detail and is missing alot of things that it says in the books like how tall Jacob is.

    Radioactive Crap

this book was very poorly written. There were plot holes the size of everest and she used the words marble and velvety ten times per page. Also, bella is quite possibly the worst role model ever. Just so u know girls, its not healthy to obsess over sparkly people. (if ur a sparkletard i appologize for offending you.) Personally i think that someone should grab a copy of anne rices the queen of the damned and shove it in SMs face so that she realizes how much she butchered the image of the vampire created by real writers. the raeason the book is so popular is simply because she managed to fall on a theme that is garanteed to hook every insecure tween out there- hot men falling in love with plain, average girls.

    A Parent's Perspective

    BookThia

My daughter is turning 12 and has been asking to read this, so I read it first. I can definately see what is appealing about this story -- any girl would love to receive the full and undying love and attention of a perfect and beautiful male -- vampire or not.

My concern with the book has nothing to do with the vampire characters -- she, like most girls, understands that it is fiction. What troubles me about this book is the obsessive relationship between Edward and Bella. She never believes herself worthy of his perfection, which gives a troubling message to young girls who get enough mixed messages about self-image. And yet, because he "loves" she turns her back on everyone else in her life and thinks only of him. This is a distorted and damaging portrayal of "love" for young girls.

So, parents, when your daughters read this (and I almost never recommend forbidding a book -- do let them read it), be ready for a conversation about being worthy of any boy's love, and for a discussion about the differences between love and obsession.

Definitely for teen readers, however, nearing the end of the book it got more appealing to me as an adult. The next few books would get a little more interesting. My favorite of them being, Eclipse. Not for the romance part of it...the action was exciting to read about.
The first movie was missing so many key points of the story line that unless you had not read the first book, you miss the point of the story in some sense.
If you hang in there, (ignoring the unnecessary boring ramblings at times), the books get better. The last book had many unnecessary parts in it that could have definately been left out (whoever her editor is, they should be fired), I can see why the movie had condensed the story. Everyone told me the novels were far better than the movie so I was curious, so for this particular novel, the book was actually better than the movie, but as for new moon...the movie is definately better. Eclipse looks to be exciting. We'll see. I'd love to see another novel to follow breaking dawn and have them annihilate the vulturi. That would be great to see.

And I'm Not Just Saying This

Okay, I know what you're thinking. Everybody loves Twilight because of Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. But behind the silver screen lies a very wonderful book. Twilight is a really entertaining book, with a little bit of everything: romance, comedy, mystery, drama, and a few scary parts. Stephenie Meyer is a truly gifted writer who has written a book that appeals to such a wide range of people. The book was very descriptive, and the main plot of a vampire falling in love with a human was a simple concept made into an amazing story. This is a perfect example of "The movie is never as good as the book!" . In this case, the movie was great, so just imagine the book.

    Sizzling!

Stephanie Meyer's novel about the 'forbidden' love between the mortal and the immortal has hit bookshelves in the past few years and flown off of those same shelves as it has become a blockbuster hit, and is loved by men, women, teenagers and older adults as well.
When Isabella Swan moves to the dreary town of Forks, she believes that her life has ended as she knows it. When she meets Edward, the pale faced high school hunk, she feels that her luck has turned around. She has to figure out if she is willing to risk everything she lives for, for the one who has become her everything.
The book differs from the movie in many ways, both in the writing styles as well as content wise, but I would open up the book and read about Bella's unending love for Edward or revel in the lives of this particular family of vampires trying to live inconspicuously, over popping the DVD into my player any day.
Many before this have speculated as to why Twilight has become such a hit, why it can appeal across generations of people as well as how it has become a must read on everyone's list. The answer to this; simple. It has everything from a hopeless love story, to blood and guts fighting.
Meyer's writing brings her reader into the novel with her, when I was reading I felt it almost too easy to close my eyes and imagine myself as one of her characters however at the same time, I also felt it much too easy to deem this book as a 'must read', and one of those books that we simply cannot put down. Her writing has a way of painting such an intense picture in her reader's minds, the way she describes the feeling that Bella gets when she first meet's Edward in the school biology lab, or the fear that she feels when she thinks she has lost him forever.
Along with the love story that Twilight is based around, there is also that impending sense of danger that the characters feel that keep the reader on edge and guessing what is going to happen next.
As Myers' books progress so do her suspenseful writing and avid imagination and its no wonder that they have landed themselves on the top sellers lists multiple times.

I think Stephenie Mayer did a wonderful job in creating the Twilight series. Bella Swan, who is originally from Washington, moved to Forks to live with her father (who's head sheriff) because her mom and boyfriend would like to travel. Bella has always seemed to take care of her mom, instead of the other way around. Bella falls in love with a local vampire, Edward Cullen, and then it truly becomes one of the most romantic books I have ever read. Bella and Edward are madly in love, and have to deal with many isues through their relationship in this book. Stephanie Meyer keeps readers on their toes, and wanting more. (I read the book in about 2 days; i couldnt put th book down! I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in vampires, romance or drama.

I absolutely hate Twilight and will continue too. I don't care how many people will find this comment 'bad' or 'unhelpful', but i'm being truthful in saying this was the worst book i've ever read. I guessed everything, and the characters really made me mad. Bella is so mary-sue. Edward is too protective. Jacob.. gets my annoyed so easily. I really cannot see why anyone would like this book. Unless you're some stupid teenage girl who likes to read gay fiction books. I'm a teenage girl, I like fiction. But this book is the worst and I would not recommend for anyone to read it. SM is a great writer, but this idea is truly stupid. Read: The Host (amazing.), or Harry Potter (best ever). If you don't like those and love Twilight, then there must be something wrong with you. Sorry, but it's the truth.

ok there is something wrong with you!! this book is absolutley amazing. Bella can totally relate to alot of people and she is amazing. Her being so denial is what makes this book good. And edward being protective is just so there is more action so there can be like a kind of fight to win over bella (between jacob and edward). And jacob is just a loyal friend and everyone has someone like that so you can relate to it. people ignore this comment. Twilight had me hangin on through the whole series and im reading the whole series for a third time already!!

    ReadingRikarux

I completely agree with you. I mean I've read all the books, but mostly because even if I read the beginning of a series that I don't particularly enjoy, I have to finish it to know what happens in the end. The book is boring and the reason that Bella can relate to everyone is thee fact that she is so nondescript and just plain boring. The only people who really can't see themselves as Bella are perhaps athletic girls since the fact that she's clumsy is the only thing that stands out, but everyone's clumsy at some point. The only one of the series that has some interest is Breaking Dawn, and even then the climax is kind of boring. Thanks for the truth Violetwish! =P

    Chey_11

I am 40, but I agree with you on this book in particular, however... if you hung in there until the end and ignored the unnecessary ramblings that should have been edited out, as well as the way, Bella was portrayed as a character in this book. It gets better. The idea of the story was good and with good intentions. I enjoyed eclipse the most. Breaking dawn was okay, but not the best, the imprinting thing was weird and Jacob got to be so annoying as did the entire story of Ressesme (or whatever the kids name was). Kind of out there! It could have been a lot better if it were edited a little more thoroughly.
