Undead and Unemployed is the hilarious second novel in The Undead Series. Shortly before "dying" and becoming a vampire, Betsy was fired from her job as a secretary. Being dead doesn't mean the end to expenses though, so Betsy decides she needs to find a new job and quit relying on her friend's charity. Betsy lands a perfect job selling shoes at Macy's, but her life still has problems. Vampires are mysteriously being murdered, and as Queen, Betsy is supposed to put an end to the vampire slaying. It's a good thing she can count on hunky vampire Sinclair for some help . . .

This book is a splendid continuation of the life of perpetually vain but delightfully funny Betsy, Queen of the Vampires. The novel is what I consider to be a "fluff novel" that doesn't require much thinking, but it is endlessly entertaining. The plot picks up shortly after the first book in the series ended, but deals with a whole new problem that arises for Betsy. I laughed out loud several times as Betsy interacted with various returning and new characters. Without the humor, these novels wouldn't offer much, but Davidson is a master at writing hilarious dialogue and encounters for Betsy.

Betsy hasn't appeared to mature or grow, but that's part of her charm. She's about as deep as a kiddie pool. Betsy is a sweet person at heart, but she just tends to focus on the superficial aspects of things before thinking about the serious aspects. She's a character that will appeal to women who are feminine and fashion conscious, particularly lovers of shoes. Sinclair is still a much more serious, traditional vampire character than Betsy, but he is a perfect contrast to her unconventional vampire ways.

The novel is written from Betsy's perspective, but there are occasional chapters that are sort of like journal entries from another character. The writing style is simple which lends itself well to the fast pace of the story as well as the comical nature of the character interactions. There is very little "dark" vampire content in these books. Instead, it's a light, perky novel with occasional moments of mild steaminess and a lot of laugh

I'd highly recommend Undead and Unemployed, but be sure to read the first novel in the series, Undead and Unwed, first!

Thanks Lokki! I'm just speaking the truth. Betsy has surface thoughts, not deep thoughts.

Once again I thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of Betsy. She is witty, humourous and you have to love sexy Sinclair! I liked the introduction of new characters and I thought that the story of Sarah and Maria was heart warming. I can't wait to read the next book!

This is book number two in the Queen Betsy series.

Betsy is having one rough week as her house is being destroyed by termites, she has no job, awful luck at the unemployment agency, the steamy detective is on to her newly 'undead' status, people are killing vampires and as Queen she needs to do something about it, and both vampires and humans want her dead.

She and her friends move into a super fabulous house but too big to be comfortable and now they have all sorts of unwanted guests.

This books is written in the same style as the first. It's light, witty, and fun. Sinclair is still hot, Betsy is still a shoe-obsessed hot head, and the banter between the two is priceless.

I found that this book was as predictable as the first, unfortunately. Not to say that the first book was predictable but knowing the ending and the bad guy in the first, it's not hard to guess who the new bad guy will be.

I'll compare this novel to one of the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich.

This was a great follow up to Unwed! She is as smart and sassy as she was in the first installment and Sinclair is just as hot. I loved that she kept her independant streak and got herself a job, too bad she couldn't keep it! It is a page turner so you can see what she will encounter next!
