This is the second novel of the vampire diaries series, which
includes volumes 3 &4: The Fury is the third volume and The
Dark Reunion is the fourth volume. Dark Reunion was originally set
to be the conclusion of the series, but the author continued it
years later....
Please do not read further unless you have finished volume 2 (The
Struggle), because there are minor spoilers!
The Fury is about Elena, who was just in a horrific car accident,
leaving her dead and an angry Stefan looking for revenge against
Damon for believing that he was the cause of her death. However,
during the deathly battle between brothers, Elena suddenly appears,
but she is confused and disoriented: she's in love with Damon and
hates Stefan! She has no memory of her relationship with Stefan,
and she was determined to even kill him!! Both brothers suddenly
stop their deathly fight to figure out what has happened to Elena
and how she came back to life, as well as why she has no memory of
ever loving Stefan. Stefan and Damon decide to trust Matt in their
secret in order to save Elena's life and hopefully return her to
her normal state of mind (not that Damon is complaining).
Throughout this whole volume, Elena is confused of who to love: the
sensitive and sweet Stefan who has been there for her, or the
dangerous and wild Damon who will show her how to have fun in life.
There is also a new and strange dark force that is possessing the
town dogs by making them attack their owners, leaving the two
brothers to work together with one of the teachers, who turns out
that he has his own secrets. The townspeople are beyond frightened
and some even turn the blame on Stefan by having suspicions of who
is really is. As it turns out, the dark and powerful force is more
related to Damon's and Stefan's past than they realize....This
volume was the best one out of the four volumes of the vampire
diaries. The ending will leave you speechless and there are some
major twists and surprises throughout the whole volume that will
leave you in suspense!
The fourth volume, which was originally set to be the conclusion of
the series, is Dark Reunion. Please do not continue reading unless
you have finished The Fury because there are spoilers to the
previous volume! With Elena gone, Stefan and Damon move back to
Italy in order to reclaim some part of their old lives, leaving
Elena's friends, Bonnie and Meredith, alone. Bonnie, with the help
of Meredith, Caroline, Vickie and Sue, contact Elena by using a
ouija board, and Elena informs them that they better get out of the
house right away! However, Elena's friends are too late, and they
are chased in Caroline's dark house, leaving one of the girls dead.
Elena continues to contact Bonnie throughout her dreams, and
leaving her clues as to who the murderer is and how to stop him.
Bonnie uses a summoning spell and contacts Stefan and Damon to come
back and help them fight the murderer. Vickie seems to be back in
her scared trance, and Stefan and Damon, with the help of Matt,
Meredith and Bonnie, figure out that the murderer is somehow beyond
human and that it will continue to kill the townspeople until every
single one of them is dead... starting with Vickie. Stefan and
Damon take turns watching her house for any signs of who the dark
creature is. However, Stefan and Damon have a huge fight about
trust, causing Damon to leave Stefan alone to deal with the
murders. Elena's friends insist that Stefan needs human blood to be
strong enough to fight whatever it is that is killing everyone, but
Stefan continues to refuse. Bonnie reunites Stefan and Elena in a
dream, which Stefan finds out who the real murderer is with Elena's
help. Stefan must find someone who has survived the attacks of this
murderer, who can somehow tell him how to defeat it. During the
conclusion, there was a huge battle between Stefan and the
murderer, with the evil help of one of Elena's classmates! The
ending really shows how much Stefan and Damon care for each other.
Elena then makes a surprising and shocking entrance with
supernatural forces in order to help defeat the murderer.... This
volume was enjoyable, but there were some really slow parts
throughout the plot. The ending did not explain how Elena came
back, especially since this was originally supposed to be the final
volume of the series. The ending was also not very realistic and it
leaves the reader wondering what happened. Overall, this volume was
a good read, but lacked explanation
