by Ellen Schreiber

HARPERCOLLINS PUBLISHERS | April 13, 2009 | Trade Paperback

A new guy in town.

Rumors of vampires.

Dangerous first love.

This is where it all begins. . . .

The mansion on top of Benson Hill has stood empty for years. But one day it seems to be occupied, and its mysterious, handsome inhabitant Alexander Sterling becomes the source of much talk around town. Raven, a vampire-obsessed Goth-girl who has always considered herself an outsider in "Dullsville," is determined to uncover the truth surrounding the secretive Alexander. As she gets to know him, and their spark intensifies, Raven finds herself in some unanticipated situations. Can Alexander make her lifelong dream come true? But love always has its complications-especially when it can only be awakened at nightfall.

The first three books in Ellen Schreiber''s bestselling Vampire Kisses series capture the thrill of a most unusual romance.

Was a waste of paper... I kid you not.

I have to say this before I get started: The cover of the book is better then the actual book.
This book is the stereotypical crap-tastic vampire book which should be more realistically aimed at pre-teens. The characters are one dimensional and totally underdeveloped. Raven was just the stereotypical goth girl with nothing special or amazing about her. The plot is... how to say this kindly... Terrible. The plot is absolutely terrible, overdone and cliched. The romance was just... words. I felt nothing.
Another thing was the book could have just been cut in half. It could have been 250 pages instead of like 500.
Overall it is not worth your time.

You're right Sabrina Costa. I can read a 500 pages but I can't read a cover... How shameful that you have discovered my secret! No, but seriously. You are also entitled to your own opinion but I recommend that in the future that you aren't so hostile about peoples opinions in the future and not be rude. I'm a person on the internet who you have never met. There's no point jumping down my throat because of our different viewpoints.

    Sabrina Costa

I'm sorry to say, but, the book is not 500 pages. It is three separate books, put into one. Do you not know how to read the cover? Book 1-Vampire kisses, Book 2-Kissing coffins, Book 3- Vampireville. & Overall, it was definitely worth my time, I've never loved a book like I love this one, with an exception of Perfect Chemistry. Honestly, I find the book I just mentioned & the Vampire kisses series to be quite interesting. Much more interesting than Twilight. Also, people obviously really enjoy her books. She's even released a comic book version! She's obviously making A LOT of money selling these books you call a waste of paper. But, HEY, you're entitled to your opinion as much as I'm entitled to mine.

Oh damn. I'm a big believer in judging a book by it's cover, and this cover is so pretty ... so sad to hear it's just as bad as I figured it would be - Just another Twilight. Good thing I only paid three dollars for it!

I think this book was the WORST, most HORRIBLE, and the BADLYIST(can't think of anything else, and yes, I know it's not a word) writen book I've ever read.

The main girl-Raven- is a goth obsessed teen who had no life and who majorly needs to get one. This "book" is full of so many cliche's I wanted to rip it in half and feed it to a bunch of hungry birds.

Every page it says that Raven in a goth(well a wannabe anyway), or is wearing black lipstick with fishnet tights and combats boots. Every page I read my mind was screaming "SHUT UP ELLEN SCH...whatever." Anyway, so through the book all you really get is that Ravens a moron, Trevors supposedly a bum hole, Alexander is a "Gothic Prince" (Ellens/Ravens words deffinently not mine), and Luna and Jagger are freakos. To be frank, Jagger is the most exciting thing in the whole freaking book.

ANOTHER THING! Nothing remotly interesting happens in the novel until when Jagger come into the picture. And even then it was pretty lame. And you wanna know the last line of the book? "I knew one thing- I'd have to find out."

...I think that is not a good way to end a story. Sure it leaves you hanging, and I'm certain thats what Ellen was aiming for but...she aimed too high and fell off a cliff. In my opinion. And I hope in some other peoples opinions.

This is a book you would want your friends to read just so they know how terrible it is, and could make fun and mean comments of it with you. I apoligize to those of you who liked this book and are offended by it. I wholeheartedly apoligize...ok not "whole"heartedly but if your offended by it I'm sorry for it.

But I truly did hate this book. And the only other thing I trult hate is bugs, like seriously what good are they? And yes I know they are a food source, but that's it.

I like bad reviews. They tend to be funny and interesting. Yours did not disappoint. A number of people have told me that this is one of the worst in the teen vamp genre. Glad to see it lives up to it.

Not much of a goth person but it caught me in the book. And for the moments while I was in the book, I got to be in the shoes of a teenage goth girl who dreams to be a vampire. A bit over the top of being a rebel but I loved the titles when a new chapter began. Gave me a glimpse in the future.

So being a fan of "Vampire" stories...I picked this up to see what it was all about. Not bad, but as an adult reading it, I found it somewhat childish and not really all that romantic. The girl, Raven, was somewhat annoying, and to be frank the constant reminders that she is so "goth" and into "vampires" got old after the first couple chapters. So all in all, good for a light read, and good for a younger audience (like pre teen - 14ish years)?
