    An essential for herbivores

If you're vegan or vegetarian, this book will be a staple for you, one you'll go to dozens of times for tips and recipes. Even if you're not on a plant-based diet, everything in here is so tasty that you'll want to make it anyway.

I particularly like that this book starts out with the basics, like how to cook legumes and grains. These are the things that make up the bulk of a healthy vegan diet, and knowing how to make them from scratch means your meals will be healthier and cheaper.

I'm not anything remotely close to a vegan, but I bought this book for my mom, who is. She and I have each made several recipes from it now, and we've both loved the results. If anyone thinks it would be difficult to go vegan, they should try this book. The recipes are so good and full of flavour, you won't miss animal products at all!

Tried a couple recipes out of it the day I got it in the mail had to substitute a couple things since I didn't have all the ingredients I needed but it turned out awesome. Even my husband who is nowhere close to wanting to be a vegetarian let alone vegan said it was awesome and filling.

Well organized, extremely good basic vegan recipes as well as great variety for the taste buds. Tried a few since buying and the chickpea cutlets (p. 133) are absolutely delicious. The Lima Beans Mediterraniean Style (p. 121), would convert non-lima bean lovers to the "other side" - mouth-watering and scrumptious. Recipes are easy to follow, introduction is filled with good cooking habits, explanations, etc. Has all the basics and the exceptional recipes for appetizing meals. One suggestion to the authors would be the inclusion of the nutritional value of each recipe. Am looking forward to trying more of these recipies soonest.

    Great "go to" cookbook!

I love having at least one cookbook in my collection that has recipes for every occasion, Veganomicon is the vegan version of that and my "go to" cookbook. There are some simple, easy recipes and some that are more detailed for when you have more time but either way you can be confident that your dish will turn out great!

    Intimidating

As someone new to cooking, let alone cooking vegan, I find this cookbook a bit intimidating. I also don't really like to cook, so I prefer easy, fast recipes. Most of these recipes require a lot of ingredients... Hopefully when my cooking improves I will get more use out of this cookbook, as others really seem to like it.

I got this book right when it came out and I still use it almost every day. I love how it has everything from how to bake a potato (I can never remember what temperature or how long), to quick and easy meals, to more time consuming but very rewarding dinners. It has appetizers, sauces, salads (the Caesar salad is to die for), cookies and everything in between. I just really can't say enough good things about this book!

Okay, I even loved the way the cover felt holding it in my hands! I tore into the box that it came in, sat down with some iced ginger green tea and read every single page voraciously!! When I was finished the last page, I felt physically full, as though I had eaten every recipe in this book!!
I'm veg, my hubby is not. However, while I read out the recipe titles and ingredients to him, he began to drool a little...I highly recommend this book to veg's or vegans who have family and friends that are skeptics of this lifestyle choice. It proves once and for all that eating vegetarian and/or vegan does not mean munching on alfalfa sprouts - that there are a wealth of great dishes that can be enjoyed by herbivores, carnivores, the health conscious and the skeptical "are you sure you're getting enough protein" people out there!
Can't wait for a Veganomicon Volume Two!!!

Picked this book up as a meat eater looking to put more veggies in my diet, have to say I am impressed. lots of tasty and nontraditional flavor combinations most dishes have a complex taste but are straight forward to prepare plus easy to follow directions. These are creative vegetable inspired dishes not the usual veggie or vegan cook book that typically takes all our meaty faves and tries to turn them veg. This book is surprisingly original. these ladies obviously love food and have a passion for what they do in the kitchen.

    Culinary Brilliance

I didn’t think that Isa could top her first vegan cookbook “Vegan with a Vengeance”, but she and Terry proved me wrong. Veganomicon is a fantastic mix of simple and elegant recipes, each bursting with vegan flavour! The book starts out with a very helpful reference section including “How to cook a Vegetable”, “How to cook a Grain” and “How to cook a Bean” so you can bring anything home from the farmer’s market and concoct your own delicious meal. In the Recipes section, Isa’s and Terry’s brilliance is conveyed with such tasty dishes as “Tamarind Lentils”, “Chickpea Cutlets”, “Eggplant-Potato Moussaka with Pine Nut Cream”, “Homestyle Potato Rolls” and “Pistachio-Rosewater Cookies”. Each recipe is marked with symbols for quick reference, such as “Under 45 minutes”, “Supermarket Friendly”, “Low-fat” and “Gluten-free”. Sprinkled throughout the book are handy Tips that elevate your cooking to that of an experienced chef. As well, Isa’s and Terry’s humour and wit makes reading each recipe fun. Veganomicon is a necessity for your kitchen library whether you are a life-long vegan or just want to add more plant-based meals to your diet.
