This little gem deserves a place on the New York Best Seller's list. The best analogy I ever heard of Shane's work is that he has the ability to break your heart and heal it in the same poem. He absolutely is a national treasure. He has 2 other books, "Stickboy" and "Our Deathbeds will be thirsty." Trust me you need them all. Once you read them - you'll read them again and again.... and if you ever have the opportunity to see him perform live don't hesitate - it is a one of a kind experience.

This is a masterful collection of poetry by a writer who obeys the spirit of rhythm and nuance. Shane's poems are so human and direct and funny and profound. He has the power to show the beauty and meaning behind the seemingly mundane. There is a lot of energy and optimism in this book.

The book also comes with a cd of Shane performing some of his poems, which is awesome because he's an amazing performer. If you've never seen him perform and have only heard the rumours, then buy the book because it's pretty damn good.

This book is amazing. It's both funny and tragic, but not in any sort of cliché way. His writing is so accessible and so moving. He captures some of the deepest most uncomfortable moments of life, both good and bad, poignantly without being pretentious or brazen. I love it!!!
