Watered-Down Electricity:Using Water to Explain Electricity

by John A. Fife, John Fife

John Fife | January 12, 1996 | Trade Paperback

We all know what electricity does, but how many of us, either children or adults, know how electricity works or what it really is?! Here is a book that finally explains this powerful yet mysterious energy in our lives in a way that makes it understandable to us all. By comparing it in words and pictures (half of the pages have graphics!) to something we already know a lot about: water. Actually the properties and conduct of water and electricity are amazingly similar and serve quite well in facilitating a conceptual illustration of what this (sometimes) "mysterious" energy source is. This is a book for all ages, including adults, young adults and children, covering in a clear and simple manner the basics of what electricity is and how it behaves. Learn about the latest methods of producing electricity, how generators work and much more! At last, here is an opportunity to understand in a quick and easy way, this productive power that is so important to every aspect our lives.

This book is a must for all those who are fascinated with our wonderful world of science and how it works. I love this book. As a parent, as well as a high school Science teacher this book is priceless. I have learned over the years that children learn faster when they are learning with a sense of humour combined with facts. This book combines both beautifully. It is a must for every educator and parent who wants their children to know about the wonderful world of science and wants to help unfold the mysteries underneath the myths.

Just wanted to let you know the book arrived yesterday. It's great! My son has had us reading it ever since it came - he loves it! I will continue to let my friends and family know about the book and your website. Thanks again!

Thank you for the book - I thought it was soooo good I took it into work (I work in a school library) and they liked it too. I will contact you if we are ordering more copies, and I dare say the library staff upon reading it, may recommend it! Thank you again, (and) good luck in the future.
