The Weather Makers: How We are Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life On Earth

by Tim Flannery

Harpercollins Canada, Limited | December 19, 2006 | Trade Paperback

Climate change is real, and it will affect all of us. From desertification to rising ocean levels, from killer storms to wildlife extinction, we're already seeing the effects of human activity on the most sensitive part of the global ecosystem. In this extraordinary book, Tim Flannery not only describes the problem of global warming and climate change, he suggests in detail how the world can act to solve it.

More than just a #1 bestseller across Canada, The Weather Makers is an international publishing phenomenon that has won praise from critics, scientists and world leaders, including British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Australian Prime Minister John Howard. Flannery's clear explanations and practical suggestions bring an issue of monumental scope and importance down to the individual level, making us aware of how everyday activities contribute to climate change and what we can do, personally and collectively, to work against this urgent crisis.

The Weather Makers was a very good informative book that talked about the climate at present and the challenges we face to save it. It also talks about what would happen if we didn’t act to save the environment that supports all life on earth including ourselves. I think this is a very interesting book because of the way it is written; it explains the theories and science behind the statements in the book very well. Flannery also writes the book as to not bore the reader but inform him or her of the facts and theory’s that surround climate change and what it is an will do to our planet, and how we as individuals can act to help save our world. I think that this book is another good source among many out there that shows the world that there is a real threat and that we must act or we will suffer the consequences. The weather makers can be used to inform of the changes that we are causing or it can be read as a story about Flannery and other scientist’s experiences in the environment. This book also has a grave element to it in the mid section of the book Flannery goes over know species that have gone extinct because of climate change and also ones that we have put at risk of extinction.
