Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health

by William Davis, MD

Rodale Books | August 30, 2011 | Hardcover

A renowned cardiologist explains how eliminating wheat from our diets can prevent fat storage, shrink unsightly bulges, and reverse myriad health problems.
Every day, over 200 million Americans consume food products made of wheat. As a result, over 100
million of them experience some form of adverse health effect, ranging from minor rashes and high blood sugar to the unattractive stomach bulges that preventive cardiologist William Davis calls "wheat bellies." According to Davis, that excess fat has nothing to do with gluttony, sloth, or too much butter: It's due to the whole grain wraps we eat for lunch.
After witnessing over 2,000 patients regain their health after giving up wheat, Davis reached the disturbing conclusion that wheat is the single largest contributor to the nationwide obesity epidemic-
and its elimination is key to dramatic weight loss and optimal health. In Wheat Belly, Davis exposes the harmful effects of what is actually a product of genetic tinkering and agribusiness being sold to the
American public as "wheat"-and provides readers with a user-friendly, step-by-step plan to navigate a new, wheat-free lifestyle.
Informed by cutting-edge science and nutrition, along with case studies from men and women who
have experienced life-changing transformations in their health after waving goodbye to wheat, Wheat
Belly
is an illuminating look at what is truly making Americans sick and an action plan to clear our plates of this seemingly benign ingredient.

Another attempt to make money selling books by making "new and revealing" statements.
Very little research has been done for this book, other than observations from the author, who blames wheat for all deseases under the sun...
Contrary to the statement made in the book, we all know deep down that the obesity problem in our society, is more related to food quantity and quality vs our activity levels and not wheat, carbs, gi index and so on.
If nutrition is of interest, look into the china study or the okinawa program, two books that actually have research and common sense to back them up.

I've just finished this book. I highly recommend it. I lost 10% of my body weight following Dukan, and have been low-carbing for years. This description of the negative impact of genetically modified grains is spot on. Don't be put off by Robert Belisle's comments. I don't believe he read the book. If he did, then his comments are simply nonsense.

Thanks R. Belisle. I was thinking of reading "Wheat Belly". Based on your comment, I checked out the reviews for "The China Study" and I think I will read that instead. As a scientist, I am more interested in facts than fiction/ fantasy.

It has been TWO weeks since I read this book and changed my food habits and I have never felt better! I am more alert and feel amazing! I am eating more veggies, healthy fats and protien and have noticed my body responding! The book is well written and very informative! I highly recommend the read. In comparssion to the Paleo diet; Wheat Belly still allows flax, quinoa and dairy products (and gives reasons why). Dr Davis explores how wheat has changed and evolved over the years into a grain that our bodies are not processing.

A fantastic read - Dr. Davis has nailed the cause of the obesity epidemic!!! As a carbohydrate addict with binge eating disorder, I consider this book to be my Bible. It's easy to read, humorous and very informative.
